Brunei Tourism publishes current getting-around guidance, including transport and taxi context. Use it as the starting point, then ask the hotel for the stop or entrance that actually serves the property.

How should you use the public bus?

Treat the bus as a route-and-time match, not as a generic airport amenity. Identify the correct stop before leaving the terminal, screenshot the route, and assess the final walk in heat or rain. If the service window is close, choose the reserved fallback instead of waiting without a clear last departure.

Carry a small cash backup and ask how the current fare is paid. A phone map helps, but keep the hotel address and number offline.

How do you choose a taxi or transfer?

Use a clearly identified service, hotel-arranged car or another verifiable booking channel. Confirm the total or fare basis, currency, payment method, late surcharge and whether waiting is included. Send the flight number so the driver can monitor a delay.

What should you do before landing?

Complete applicable arrival formalities only through the official immigration portal, save the accommodation contact, and carry enough battery and data for pickup coordination. If arrival overlaps Friday prayer time or a public holiday, reconfirm both the vehicle and reception desk.

For the return journey, add margin for the pickup to reach you. Brunei's road distance may be short, but a missed or misunderstood pickup can consume the buffer faster than traffic itself.

How should you compare the complete transfer?

For the bus, include waiting, fare, final walk and a fallback ride if service does not appear. For a car, include airport or late surcharge, waiting, bags and payment fees. A group may find one vehicle competitive once the last kilometre is counted, while a solo daytime traveller near a direct stop may not.

Ask the hotel for the real entrance and safest approach. Heat, rain and road crossings can make a short map distance unsuitable with luggage. Travellers with limited mobility should request vehicle step height and the route from drop-off to reception.

What should be saved offline?

Keep the driver's name, plate or vehicle description, hotel telephone, full address, agreed price and immigration documents available without data. Screenshot the public route but recheck it on travel day. For an early departure, reconfirm reception checkout and transport the evening before; do not assume the arrival method operates equally well before dawn.

What do the current published fares show?

Brunei Tourism currently describes metered taxis as starting at BND 3.50 for the first kilometre or minute, followed by BND 0.20 for each 250 metres or 15 seconds. It lists a BND 3 airport surcharge, BND 8 for travel between districts and a 50% surcharge from 6 pm to 6 am. More than two luggage pieces or more than four passengers can also attract additional charges.

These figures let you audit a quote, but they are not a guaranteed trip total. Ask the official taxi point for the live fare and surcharge treatment. A hotel fixed transfer may cost more or less depending on waiting and vehicle size; compare its complete amount with the meter structure.

Brunei Tourism lists Dart as the local app-based transport service and notes that Uber and Grab are not available. Install and verify Dart before relying on it, but retain the airport taxi or hotel-transfer fallback if no driver accepts.

How does the public bus compare?

Official tourism guidance describes public buses as averaging BND 1 per ride and operating from about 6 am to 8 pm. That is a low fare, not proof of a direct or frequent airport departure. Verify route, actual next service and the final walk. A late flight, Friday closure window, rain or several bags can remove the practical advantage.

Carry small cash unless the current operator confirms another payment method. Tell the hotel which bus and stop you expect to use; reception can flag an unsuitable walk or a service that has changed.

What arrival administration should be completed first?

Brunei Tourism says all foreign nationals arriving or departing through air, sea or land control posts must complete the E-Arrival Card. It replaces the former paper Form 19 and is separate from visa permission. Check the official immigration guidance for the current process and complete it before arrival as instructed.

Do not use an unofficial paid submission site. Save the confirmation with the passport and visa evidence. If immigration or baggage takes longer than planned, tell the booked driver before leaving the controlled area.
