Catacombs ticket prices
The Catacombes de Paris are run by Paris Musées, the city's museum body. Its individual rates page lists one set of prices, each including the audio guide (checked 9 October 2026):
| Visitor | Price |
|---|---|
| Adult, full rate | €31 |
| Reduced rate: ages 5–26, students, "Paris Pass Famille" holders | €25 |
| Child, ages 8–17 | €15 |
| Child, under 8 | Free |
| Disabled visitor and personal carer | Free |
Because ages 8–17 have their own €15 rate and under-8s are free, the €25 reduced rate mostly matters for 18 to 26-year-olds and students. Bring valid ID for any reduced or free rate. The page also lists an audio guide on its own at €5. That is for free-ticket holders: the useful information page says free tickets do not include the audio guide, which you buy at the desk on the day.
For two adults with a 14-year-old and a 6-year-old, the total is €77. Two students pay €50.
Other free categories include job seekers and recipients of certain French income support, Paris city employees, art professionals, journalists and ICOM/ICOMOS members, each with proof.
How booking works
The pre-visit page puts it plainly: "Online booking only (7 days in advance)", for a timed slot. The Catacombs home page calls online booking strongly recommended for every ticket except free ones and links to the Paris Musées ticket site, where you choose the slot. Neither page describes paid tickets sold at the door, so book online as soon as your date is within a week rather than planning a walk-up visit (checked 9 October 2026).
Free tickets work differently. The rates page says they cannot be booked online: you collect them at the front desk on the day with proof, and you are guaranteed entry even if the website shows the day as fully booked. People accompanying a ticket holder can enter in the same time slot.
Opening hours and closed days
According to the useful information page (checked 9 October 2026):
- Tuesday to Sunday, 9:45 to 20:30
- Last admission at 19:30
- Closed on Mondays and on 1 January, 1 May and 25 December
- Open on 14 July, 15 August, 1 November and 11 November
A Monday in Paris is therefore a Catacombs gap. The latest slots still leave the full hour-long circuit before closing.
What the visit involves
The pre-visit page describes a one-way 1.5 km circuit that takes about an hour, with 131 steps down at the start and 112 steps up at the end. The average temperature is 14°C and it can be very humid, so a light layer helps even in summer.
Bags and what is refused
- Bags up to 40 × 30 × 20 cm, carried in front or at your side
- No suitcases, large bags or motorcycle helmets
- No strollers; use a baby carrier
- No food, drink, alcohol or animals on the circuit, and do not touch the bones
- Photos for private use are allowed, without tripod or flash
There is no cloakroom, because the exit is in a different street. If you are coming straight from a hotel checkout or to a train, store your luggage first; our guide to luggage storage near the Paris stations compares the options.
Entrance, exit and getting there
The entrance is at 1 Avenue du Colonel Henri Rol-Tanguy, on Place Denfert-Rochereau in the 14th arrondissement. The nearest station is Denfert-Rochereau on the metro and RER B, and buses 38 and 68 stop nearby.
The exit is at 21 bis Avenue René-Coty, nearly 700 m from the entrance. Plan your next move from there rather than from Denfert-Rochereau, and agree a meeting point if anyone in your group is not going down.
If you are booking several timed visits for the same trip, our guide to Eiffel Tower tickets covers the tower's fixed-slot rules, and booking Paris museums and monuments compares the other sites that need advance booking.
