Which ticket to buy
The Fondation's pricing conditions set out four paid rates and the proof needed for each. Every reduced or free rate is checked at the entrance, so carry the document named below.
| Ticket | Price | Who qualifies and what to show |
|---|---|---|
| Full price | €18 | Anyone |
| Reduced | €10 | Under 26 (ID); students with a French or European student card, or a current international student card for non-EU students; French teachers with a Pass Éducation |
| Reduced | €5 | Under 18 (ID); professional artists (URSSAF document); French professional tour guides; French jobseekers |
| Family | €36 | Up to 2 adults and up to 4 children under 18 |
| Gift ticket | €22 | No date or time slot; shuttle return included |
The family ticket pays off as soon as two adults bring one child aged 3 to 17: separately, two adults and one teenager cost €18 + €18 + €5 = €41, against €36. With two children the gap grows to €10 (€46 against €36). A single parent with one child pays less with individual tickets (€23).
Who gets in free
The pricing page lists free entry for children under 3, a disabled visitor and one guest (with a CDAPH, ONAC or MDPH card or an equivalent, plus ID), ICOM and ICOMOS members, and journalists or art critics with a current press card. Students go free on Thursdays only, on showing a current international student card. The visit page adds that Fondation members enter free.
The pricing page lists no free day for all visitors; the free Thursday applies to students only.
Booking and time slots
Booking is required. The visit page says each ticket carries an admission time and you are expected to enter within about 30 minutes of it; tickets on paper or on a phone are checked on the main square. A ticket office still sells to people who cannot buy online, and the general terms of sale say on-site sales stop half an hour before closing.
The pages are not consistent on changes. The visit and exhibition pages say tickets are "neither exchangeable nor refundable". The terms of sale say an entrance ticket can be exchanged for another date or slot of the same exhibition, free of charge, up to one day before the visit. The terms also say tickets bought at the ticket office or a machine cannot be exchanged. Treat a ticket as fixed, and if plans change after buying online, ask the visitor service (+33 1 40 69 96 00; the ticketing pages give phone hours of 10am–6pm Monday to Friday) at least a day ahead.
The current exhibition, Gustave Fayet: Collector – Designer. Icons of Modern Art, runs from 9 October 2026 to 8 March 2027, according to the exhibition page, and is the show your ticket covers this winter.

Opening hours and closed days
The Fondation's visit page, read on 29 October 2026, lists only three days: Wednesday and Thursday 10am–8pm, Friday 10am–9pm. It does not show Monday, Tuesday, Saturday or Sunday hours, and it publishes no closed days. Visitors are asked to leave the galleries 15 minutes before closing.
The official tourist board listing on Visit Paris Region leaves Tuesday out of its opening days and says the Fondation is exceptionally closed on 1 January, 1 May and 25 December. That listing carries no update date, and its own Friday and Saturday hours contradict each other, so use it only as a warning.
Getting there
The Fondation is at 8 avenue du Mahatma Gandhi, in the Bois de Boulogne (75116). The visit page gives three public options.
| Option | Where you board | Walk at the end | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fondation shuttle | Exit 2 of Charles de Gaulle–Étoile, 44 avenue de Friedland | Drops at the Fondation | €2 return |
| Metro line 1 | Les Sablons station | About 950 m | Standard metro ticket |
| Bus 73 | Les Sablons stop | About 950 m | Standard bus ticket |
The shuttle from Étoile
The French visit page gives the details missing from the English one. The electric shuttle runs about every 20 minutes during opening hours. A return trip costs €2, bought online or on board, but only with an individual admission ticket; groups are not carried. The first departure from Étoile is about 15 minutes before opening and the last from the Fondation about 7 minutes after closing.
The shuttle suits anyone already near the Champs-Élysées or the Arc de Triomphe, and saves the walk through the park in rain or after dark. A family of four pays €8 in shuttle fares; if you already hold metro tickets or a pass, line 1 to Les Sablons and the walk may be cheaper. Our Navigo and fare-zone guide explains which tickets cover that ride.
The Vélib' bike-share station closest to the entrance is no. 16123, "Mahatma Gandhi".
The Jardin d'Acclimatation
The visit page describes the individual ticket as valid "for all open spaces and the Jardin d'Acclimatation", and the terms of sale add that this access applies during the Jardin's public opening hours. The Fondation's pages do not say whether rides are included, and the Jardin sells its own day passes, so assume your ticket covers park entry only.
The Jardin's access page says it opens every day of the year and that Les Sablons metro is about 150 m from its Sablons entrance; it does not publish fixed daily hours. Neither site describes a walking route between the Jardin and the Fondation, so if you want both, visit the Fondation at your booked slot and enter the park afterwards while it is still open.

Bags, security and accessibility
Security is strict. The visit page bans liquids, including water bottles, and sharp objects; confiscated items are destroyed at the end of the day if you do not collect them. The free cloakroom takes coats, backpacks and umbrellas (backpacks and umbrellas are not allowed in the galleries), but it will not take suitcases or bulky items such as folding bikes, kick-scooters and skateboards. If you are heading on to a train or flight, use luggage storage near the Paris stations first.
How long to allow and what to do if it is full
The Fondation does not publish a recommended visit length. Given the 30-minute entry window, the security check and the shuttle or 950 m walk at each end, set aside at least half a day if you also want the Jardin or the terraces. The exhibition's ticketing page warns that the auditorium, the grotto and the terraces can close exceptionally.
If your preferred slot is sold out, check later slots the same day or a weekday, and keep the €22 gift ticket in mind: it is not tied to a slot, though it still depends on the Fondation being open. For an indoor alternative over the holidays, our guide to Paris museums open on Christmas and New Year's Day lists what is open on those dates.
