Jakarta has no transit card of its own. What opens the gates is bank-issued electronic money, and the operators' shared payment company names five brands that its integrated fare works with on MRT Jakarta, LRT Jakarta and TransJakarta. Buy one of them, load it, and use only that one all day: JakLingko states that tapping a different bank card at a transfer gate is among the reasons a passenger is charged more than IDR 10,000 (JakLingko, FAQ Tarif Integrasi, checked 16 September 2026). The package itself is a governor's decree, still in force, and it covers three services only. Commuter rail is not one of them.

Which cards the gates accept

Five bank-issued electronic money cards are the ones named for Jakarta's integrated fare: Mandiri e-Money, BCA Flazz, BNI TapCash, BRI Brizzi and Bank DKI JakCard. JakLingko's own integration FAQ lists them together with the QR ticket bought through its app, and says the integrated tariff applies to every bank e-money card its system supports (JakLingko, FAQ Tarif Integrasi, checked 16 September 2026). The requirement to pay electronically is not a company preference: the decree that sets the package states that the payment method for it is electronic money (Keputusan Gubernur Nomor 733 Tahun 2022, full text, checked 16 September 2026).

The table below matches each payment medium to the services an operator page names it for, and to whether the integrated cap applies.

Payment medium Named as accepted on Integrated cap applies
Mandiri e-Money, BCA Flazz, BNI TapCash, BRI Brizzi, Bank DKI JakCard MRT Jakarta, LRT Jakarta, TransJakarta Yes
JakLingko app QR ticket MRT Jakarta, LRT Jakarta, TransJakarta Yes
Kartu Multi Trip (KMT) Commuter Line, LRT Jabodebek No
Access by KAI, LinkAja LRT Jabodebek No

Those rows are drawn from JakLingko's integration FAQ and its app FAQ, from LRT Jabodebek's payment methods page, and from KAI Commuter's KMT page, all checked 16 September 2026.

None of the operator pages read for this guide names a foreign-issued contactless bank card as an accepted payment medium. If you arrive expecting to tap a Visa or Mastercard from home at a Jakarta gate, plan on buying a local card instead and confirm the position at the station counter.

What the three-hour cap covers

The integrated fare is set by Keputusan Gubernur DKI Jakarta Nomor 733 Tahun 2022, established on 8 August 2022 and recorded as in force, which fixes a package tariff for a journey using two or more of TransJakarta, MRT and LRT (JDIH Provinsi DKI Jakarta, document record, checked 16 September 2026). The decree's annex sets an initial charge of IDR 2,500 applied when the passenger enters the halte, station or feeder service, then IDR 250 per kilometre, with a ceiling of IDR 10,000 for one journey.

Three conditions in the annex decide whether you actually get the ceiling. The maximum travel time for a single journey at that capped price is 180 minutes. The passenger must not leave the mass transit system between the first tap-in at a validator and the final tap-out. Transfers between modes have to be made at the integration haltes or stations provided for them. Exceed 180 minutes and the decree says a further fare package is calculated on top.

A single-mode trip gets no cap. The scheme is explicitly a package for combined journeys, so riding only TransJakarta, or only the MRT, is charged at that operator's own fare, which is why the cap is worth planning around rather than assuming.

Why commuter rail sits outside

Commuter rail is not part of Jakarta's integrated fare, and putting it in the middle of a journey ends the integration. JakLingko states plainly that Mikrotrans, non-BRT buses and KCI are not yet inside the scheme, and that using one of them between TransJakarta, MRT Jakarta or LRT Jakarta legs breaks the integrated tariff (JakLingko, FAQ Tarif Integrasi, checked 16 September 2026). For the Commuter Line, KAI Commuter's own card is the Kartu Multi Trip, and fares are quoted through the calculator on its fare page rather than as a single published figure (KAI Commuter, Tarif Perjalanan, checked 16 September 2026).

The bigger trap is the word "LRT", because Jakarta has two unrelated ones. The JakLingko scheme names LRT Jakarta. LRT Jabodebek, which runs from Dukuh Atas BNI out to Jati Mulya and Harjamukti, is a KAI operation with its own published fare table and its own peak and off-peak pricing.

Fare element Outside peak hours Peak hours
Lowest fare in the table IDR 5,000 IDR 5,000
Highest fare in the table IDR 10,000 IDR 20,000
Hours applied All other times 06:00-08:59 and 16:00-19:59

Those figures come from LRT Jabodebek's fare table, checked 16 September 2026, which also publishes a separate Saturday, Sunday and public holiday column.

Where to buy and top up

Kartu Multi Trip is the one card this guide can price from an operator page: KAI Commuter sells it at IDR 30,000 with a minimum top-up of IDR 10,000, and states that it has no expiry date (KAI Commuter, Informasi KMT, checked 16 September 2026). The same page says it can be bought at every Commuter Line station ticket counter and at other locations working with KAI Commuter, and topped up at station counters, vending machines, the C-Access app and other top-up channels. LRT Jabodebek adds that the card can be bought and reloaded at its own stations too.

For the five bank e-money cards, none of the operator pages read here says where a visitor buys one, so ask at a station counter or go to the issuing bank. The app route has its own entry cost: registering for JakLingko needs an active phone number, an email address and a six-digit PIN, with verification by an OTP sent over SMS or WhatsApp, and the QR ticket is paid for with Fello, OVO, GrabPay or QRIS (JakLingko, FAQ Aplikasi Transportasi, checked 16 September 2026). A physical card avoids all of that on day one.

Busway rules that surprise people

TransJakarta's BRT corridors are a closed system, so you pay on entering the halte rather than on the bus, and what must be inside the vehicle is set by regulation rather than by the company. The operator describes BRT as the service calling at stops on its dedicated busway corridors (PT Transportasi Jakarta, Layanan BRT, checked 16 September 2026), and the decree on the integrated fare confirms that the initial charge is applied on entry to the halte or station.

Peraturan Gubernur Nomor 2 Tahun 2024, the minimum service standard for TransJakarta, is where the on-board rules actually live (JDIH Provinsi DKI Jakarta, document record, checked 16 September 2026). Its service tables require a prohibition sticker inside every vehicle covering smoking by driver or passengers, and busking, begging or selling on board. Luggage must not obstruct other passengers or reduce the vehicle's carrying capacity, and placing it outside or on top of the bus is not permitted. Air conditioning is specified at a maximum of 26 °C, with the full compliance target set for 2027 rather than today.

The women-only space on buses

TransJakarta buses carry a designated women's space, ruang khusus perempuan, which the governor's service standard classifies as a security measure rather than a comfort one. It appears in Article 12 of Peraturan Gubernur Nomor 2 Tahun 2024 in the list of things that must be ensured for passenger and staff safety on board, alongside vehicle identity, driver identification, window tint limits, CCTV, an on-board officer, prohibition stickers and a security-handling procedure.

The standard describes the space as an area for women marked with a sticker, and its performance indicator is a clearly legible "Ruang Khusus Perempuan" sticker, with a compliance target of 100 per cent for every year from 2023 to 2027. The regulation as read does not specify where in the vehicle the space sits, so look for the sticker rather than for a fixed position.

The same tables require a written procedure for handling security incidents in the bus, explicitly covering criminality, sexual harassment and disturbances of public order, plus a readable in-bus notice telling passengers what that procedure is and a complaints number. Articulated buses must carry at least four cameras, monitored on the driver's screen.

What this guide could not confirm

Two operator sites did not yield their fare pages. MRT Jakarta's website at jakartamrt.co.id is a JavaScript application that returned only an empty page shell to every request made here, and the LRT Jakarta site returned an HTTP 403 refusal each time, so this guide gives no single-mode fare figure for either. Check MRT Jakarta's and LRT Jakarta's own ticket pages before you travel; the integrated package above is a separate, regulated price and does not replace them.

TransJakarta's corporate website is thinner than most visitors expect. Its navigation covers services, routes, news, sustainability and commercial matters, with no fare table and no passenger-rules page, which is why the busway rules in this guide come from the governor's regulation instead. Nothing on any page read here names a tourist day pass or a visitor travel card. The free-travel card that does exist, Kartu Layanan Gratis, is issued to nine listed groups of residents, among them people aged 60 and over, people with disabilities, veterans, Kepulauan Seribu residents and TNI/Polri members (Dinas Perhubungan Provinsi DKI Jakarta, checked 16 September 2026), and a short-stay visitor is not eligible for it.
