Tickets: single villas or the VILLÆ Pass

Both villas belong to the state Istituto Villa Adriana e Villa d'Este (VILLÆ). Its official ticket shop, linked from the institute's hours and tickets page, lists a full ticket at €15 for Villa d'Este and €15 for Villa Adriana (checked 12 October 2026). The shop also shows a pre-sale fee line at checkout; its amount was not displayed without choosing a date, so check the total before paying.

The institute introduced two combined tickets in June 2026 (VILLÆ announcement):

Ticket Price Ages 18–25 Covers
VILLÆ Pass €30 €4 Villa Adriana, Villa d'Este and the Santuario di Ercole Vincitore, within 72 hours of first entry
VILLÆ 365 €40 €10 Unlimited entry to the same three sites for 12 months from first use

The pass costs the same as two single tickets, so it pays off if you add the Santuario or split the villas over two days. Under-18s enter free at state sites under the ministry's concessions page, and children under 12 must be accompanied.

Free days: both villas are free on the first Sunday of each month, on 25 April, 2 June and 4 November, and for women on 8 March.

Sample cost: two adults and a 16-year-old pay €60 in entry with either the pass or single tickets; two 20-year-old EU students pay €8 with the pass.

Opening hours by month

The institute's hours page (last modified 1 September 2026) gives an entry window and an exit time for each month. Both villas are open every day except 1 January and 25 December.

Getting to Tivoli

The Villa d'Este page and the Villa Adriana page give these routes (checked 12 October 2026):

To By bus By train
Villa d'Este Metro B to Ponte Mammolo, then a Cotral bus to Tivoli; get off at Largo delle Nazioni Unite, by Piazza Garibaldi, a few dozen metres away From Roma Termini or Roma Tiburtina to Tivoli station, then walk following the signs
Villa Adriana Metro B to Ponte Mammolo, then a Cotral bus via Prenestina; the stop is about 300 m from the entrance. Buses via Tiburtina stop about 2 km away To Tivoli station, then local bus CAT 4 or CAT 4X to the entrance; or train to Bagni di Tivoli and a Cotral bus via Tiburtina

Buy Cotral tickets before you board, online, in the Cotral app or at ticket offices. Cotral's ticket page says a ticket bought on the bus costs €7, cash only and exact change. The institute's pages do not give journey times, so check the Cotral or Trenitalia journey planner for your day.

Seeing both villas in one day

The institute does not publish the distance between the two villas. Its directions place Villa d'Este in Tivoli's centre (Piazza Trento 5) and Villa Adriana outside the town (Largo Marguerite Yourcenar 1), reached from Tivoli station by the CAT 4 or 4X bus, so plan a bus ride or taxi between them rather than a walk.

A workable order on a Tuesday to Sunday:

  1. Arrive at Villa Adriana for the 8:30 opening; the site is mostly outdoors, with paths and slopes, and has toilets, drinking fountains and a small snack bar.
  2. Take the CAT bus or a taxi up to Tivoli for lunch.
  3. Visit Villa d'Este in the afternoon, keeping inside the October entry limit of 17:30 (16:30 after the clock change at the end of October).

On a Monday this order is the only one that works, because Villa d'Este opens at 14:00.

If you prefer a closer trip with a city ticket, Ostia Antica by train needs only a city BIT ticket each way. For the metro ride to Ponte Mammolo or Tiburtina, see Rome metro and bus tickets.
