Two tickets: with or without Kusama
The Stedelijk's ticket selection page now offers two choices:
- Entrance Museum: the collection and the other exhibitions, excluding the Yayoi Kusama exhibition.
- Yayoi Kusama ticket: the whole museum plus the Kusama exhibition.
The Kusama show opened on 11 September 2026. Amsterdam's official visitor site, I amsterdam, says in its section for City Card holders that you must reserve a time slot and that the museum charges a €10 surcharge, without saying whether visitors without the card pay the same; it lists the exhibition until 17 January 2027. The Stedelijk's own pages that we could read did not show the Kusama price, so treat €10 as I amsterdam's figure and confirm it at checkout.
Choose the standard ticket if you are coming for the permanent collection, which is the main reason to visit outside the Kusama run. Choose the Kusama ticket only for a specific slot, and book it before you fix the rest of the day.
Standard prices and free entry
The visit page lists:
| Visitor | Standard ticket |
|---|---|
| Adults | €22.50 |
| Students and CJP cardholders | €12.50 |
| Under 19 | Free |
| Museumkaart, I amsterdam City Card | Free |
| Stadspas, VriendenLoterij VIP-KAART, ICOM | Free |
Under 19 means anyone aged 18 or younger. The Stedelijk's homepage repeats that visitors under 19 enter free.
Is the Museumkaart worth it here?
The Stedelijk accepts the Museumkaart for free standard entry. A temporary card bought by a visitor allows five visits within 31 days, and the purchase counts as the first, as our Museumkaart guide explains. With the Stedelijk at €22.50 and the Rijksmuseum in the same museum quarter, two big museums already use up a good share of the card's value.
For the Kusama exhibition, I amsterdam's €10 surcharge note is written for City Card holders and does not mention the Museumkaart. Plan on a reserved slot and a possible extra charge even with the card, and check the price shown when you book.

Hours and what is free without a ticket
The museum opens every day from 10:00 to 18:00, and the last entry is at 17:45. No late evenings are listed on the visit page. It also does not publish holiday closures on the pages we could read, so check before visiting on 25 December, 1 January or King's Day.
You do not need a ticket for the museum shop, the Don Quixote Sculpture Hall, the Fonda coffee bar or Café Restaurant Sandberg. The library is open by appointment only.
Bags and lockers
Handbags up to A4 size can go into the galleries. Backpacks and weekend cases cannot; leave them in the lockers. Full-size suitcases are not mentioned, so do not count on a locker big enough for one if you arrive straight from the airport.
Getting to Museumplein
The Stedelijk is at Museumplein 10. Its route page gives these options from Amsterdam Centraal:
- Tram 2 towards Nieuw Sloten, to the Museumplein stop.
- Tram 12 towards Amstelstation, to the Museumplein stop.
- Metro 52 to De Pijp, then tram 3 or 12.
For fares, and whether to tap a bank card or buy a GVB day ticket, see our guide to paying on Amsterdam trams and metro.
