Kew Gardens ticket prices
The Kew tickets page splits the year into seasons and charges more at the gate than online. Prices checked on 12 October 2026, without the optional donation:
| Ticket | Peak, 2 Sep–31 Oct (online / gate) | Off-peak, 1 Nov–31 Jan (online / gate) |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | £25 / £28 | £17 / £20 |
| Young person (16–29) and students | £10 / £12 | £7 / £10 |
| Concession (65+ and disabled visitors) | £23 / £26 | £15 / £18 |
| Child (4–15) | £2 / £4 | £2 / £4 |
| Child under 4 | Free | Free |
The page adds that you can buy any ticket at the gates but get the best value online. Proof of age may be needed for the 16–29 rate, and student status is checked at the gate. Children aged 16 and under must be with an adult. The page does not yet show prices for February 2027 onwards.
There is also an autumn offer: £10 Tuesdays, a £10 ticket valid only on Tuesdays from 8 September to 29 December 2026. It appears under the adult, concession and local-resident sections, so check which ticket type you are buying.
What a family pays
For two adults and two children aged 4–15:
| When | Online | At the gate |
|---|---|---|
| October (peak) | £54 | £64 |
| November to January (off-peak) | £38 | £48 |
The online saving is £10 for this family whatever the season. A couple on a Tuesday before 29 December pays £20 with the £10 Tuesdays ticket, against £50 for two peak adult tickets online in October.
Opening hours and last entry
Kew's opening and closing times page lists three periods for the rest of 2026 (checked 12 October 2026):
| Dates | Gardens open | Last entry |
|---|---|---|
| 1–24 October 2026 | 10:00–18:00 | 17:00 |
| 25 October–11 November 2026 | 10:00–16:00 | 15:00 |
| 12 November 2026–3 January 2027 | 10:00–15:15 | 14:30 |
The Gardens are closed in the daytime on 24 and 25 December.
Some attractions inside keep their own hours. The page lists the glasshouses at 10:00–17:00 ("may vary") and the Treetop Walkway at 10:00–17:00 with last entry 16:45, without date ranges. In winter the Gardens themselves close at 15:15, so arrive by late morning if the glasshouses are your priority. Kew Palace, the Pagoda and Queen Charlotte's Cottage are closed from 28 September 2026 until spring 2027.
Getting to Kew Gardens
Kew's getting here page names four gates and three rail options (checked 12 October 2026).
Tube or Overground to Kew Gardens station. The station is on the District line (Richmond branch) and the Mildmay line, in fare Zone 3, about 500 m from Victoria Gate. The TfL station page shows District line trains towards Richmond and lists London Overground as the station operator. For fares, our guide to Tube and bus fares on a bank card explains daily capping.
National Rail to Kew Bridge. South Western Railway runs from Waterloo via Vauxhall and Clapham Junction. Kew Bridge station is about 800 m from Elizabeth Gate.
Richmond. Richmond station has lifts and level access. From there the 65 bus runs towards Lion Gate and Victoria Gate, or you can walk about 15 minutes to Lion Gate (25 to Victoria Gate).
Which gate
- Victoria Gate: nearest to Kew Gardens station.
- Elizabeth Gate: nearest to Kew Bridge station and Kew Pier; coach drop-off.
- Brentford Gate: car park entrance.
- Lion Gate: nearest to Richmond, but open at weekends only from 2 November 2026 to 29 January 2027.
River boats run from Westminster Pier to Kew Pier, about 0.2 miles (roughly 300 m) across Kew Green from Elizabeth Gate, but Kew notes that sailing times depend on tides and weather.
Is Kew the right day out?
Kew is much cheaper from November to January, but those are also the months with the shortest opening hours. If you are choosing between a garden day and a palace day, compare it with Windsor Castle by train, which is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays this winter. For a free indoor alternative on a wet day, the South Kensington museums are free and open daily.
