The route: two stations, and which is which

Kutná Hora has two stations you will care about. Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží (hl. n., main station) is on the main line and is where Prague trains stop. It is the station for the ossuary in Sedlec. Kutná Hora město is the town-centre station. CzechTourism's one-day trips guide puts the Praha hl. n. to Kutná Hora run at about an hour with hourly trains, and says you change for the last 3 km into the centre on a local train.

That geography gives you the natural order:

PID (Prague Integrated Transport), which runs the Prague and Central Bohemia tariff, confirms the rail pattern in a 2026 notice: its timetable for a special bus line from Kutná Hora hl. n. has the bus wait for "R9" trains from Prague and "S20" trains from Kolín, and places Kutná Hora hl. n. in PID fare zone 7.

What does the train cost?

ČD (České dráhy, Czech Railways) prices each ticket by route. We could not read ČD's journey planner when checking this guide, so the exact single fare for your train is not quoted here. Look it up in the ČD e-shop or the Můj vlak app. ČD's ticket overview says you can buy at a ticket office, from the conductor, online or by phone.

The discounts are fixed, and they matter for groups:

  • Children: under 6 travel free; ages 6–17 get 50% off one-way tickets (ČD children's tickets).
  • Students 18–25: 50% off one-way and return tickets, but only with a Czech student discount card or an ISIC card (ČD youth tickets).
  • Small groups: ČD's trip tickets page lists a one-off group ticket for 2–19 people, with 25% off for the second passenger and 40% off for the third and each additional one.

There is also a PID option. That same PID notice prices travel from Praha hl. n. through Kutná Hora in PID fares, and points passengers without a Prague season coupon to the 24-hour all-zone ticket: CZK 288 in the PID Lítačka app or CZK 315 otherwise. PID's 2026 tariff page confirms those two prices. Before you rely on the all-zone ticket for the train, check that your train is shown as PID in the journey planner, since the notice was written for one event day.

Sedlec Ossuary: the booking rules that changed

The ossuary (the lower chapel of the Church of All Saints in Sedlec) is run by the Roman Catholic parish of Kutná Hora–Sedlec. The ossuary page is blunt: "Tickets must be purchased in advance for a specific date and time," and entry cannot be guaranteed without a reservation.

From the before-visiting page (checked 19 October 2026):

Sedlec Area ticket Price
Adult CZK 220
Senior or student CZK 150
Child or person with disability CZK 80

The Sedlec Area ticket covers both chapels of the Church of All Saints with the ossuary, plus the Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady and St John the Baptist during its regular hours. It does not include St Barbara's, which is run by a different parish.

The conditions catch people out:

  • You buy online or at the Sedlec Information Centre, Zámecká 279. Nobody else sells these tickets.
  • The time on the ticket cannot be changed.
  • Cancellations must be made at least 3 days ahead and are refunded as a voucher valid for 12 months.
  • Arrive about 5 minutes before your entry time and no later than 10 minutes after it; after that, entry cannot be guaranteed.
  • You can stay in the lower chapel (the ossuary) for 30 minutes; the upper chapel has no time limit.
  • Photography is not allowed in the ossuary.

Ossuary hours: 9:00–18:00 April to September, 9:00–17:00 in March and October, 9:00–16:00 November to February, and closed on 24 December. The information centre opens 15 minutes earlier and closes 15 minutes earlier (8:45–16:45 in October).

St Barbara's Cathedral

St Barbara's is run by the Roman Catholic Parish of Kutná Hora. Its tickets page lists CZK 180 full price, CZK 140 reduced, CZK 60 for children from 6 and severe disability card holders, and free entry under 6. The page does not say who qualifies for the reduced rate. Tickets are sold online, and the cathedral information centre is at Barborská 685.

Opening hours by month: January–February 10:00–16:00, March 10:00–17:00, April–October 9:00–18:00, and November–December 10:00–17:00 (except 24 December). On Saturday 28 November the cathedral opens only 10:00–16:00 because of a Mass.

What a day costs

For one adult using the PID all-zone ticket in the app: CZK 288 transport + CZK 220 ossuary + CZK 180 St Barbara's = CZK 688. Two students pay CZK 150 each at Sedlec. St Barbara's does not say whether students get its CZK 140 reduced rate, so budget CZK 180 each there: CZK 660 together in entry fees, before train fares at half price with an ISIC card.

An hour each way is why Kutná Hora fits a single day better than Český Krumlov; our day-trip comparison weighs the two. If you would rather make the longer trip, see Prague to Český Krumlov by bus or train. For getting to Praha hl. n. itself, our guide to Prague public transport tickets covers the city fares.
