Is the Petřín funicular open?

It is. Prague City Tourism's funicular page says the line reopened on 22 September 2026 after closing in September 2024 for slope stabilisation and reconstruction, with new fourth-generation cars.

Some official pages had not caught up when checked on 19 October 2026. The tower's own page still said the funicular was out of service, and a PID journey-planning page still listed it as "closed until 2026". The funicular page is the specific, dated source, and DPP's current fare list prices the line, so treat it as open, but glance at the lower station before you plan the whole afternoon around it.

Detail What the operator pages say
Hours Daily 7:00–22:15, all year
Frequency Every 10 minutes
Stops Újezd (bottom), Nebozízek (middle), Petřín (top)
Nebozízek Cars stop only going uphill; downhill they pass through
Ride time About 4 minutes
Getting to Újezd Trams 9, 12, 15, 20 and 22
Accessibility Not wheelchair accessible; new cars take prams and bikes more easily

The Nebozízek rule matters if you plan lunch at the restaurant halfway up: you can ride up to it, but on the way down you will have to walk from there or ride up to the top first.

Funicular tickets: which Prague tickets work

The funicular has its own flat fare. DPP's fare pricelist lists a single, non-transfer ride at 100 CZK, or 90 CZK bought in the PID Lítačka app, and includes contactless payment on the funicular among its sales channels. PID's fare page confirms the split that catches visitors out:

  • Valid: 24-hour and 72-hour PID tickets (also the Lítačka card and the Prague Visitor Pass, per Prague City Tourism).
  • Not valid: 30-minute and 90-minute tickets, even if they are still running.
  • Free: Prague City Tourism lists children under 15 and seniors over 65 as riding free.

The arithmetic: up and down on single app fares is 180 CZK per adult, more than a 24-hour ticket at 140 CZK in the app. If you are riding trams the same day, buy the 24-hour ticket and the funicular is effectively free. If Petřín is your only ride, ride up for 90 CZK and walk down through the gardens.

Petřín Lookout Tower tickets and hours

The 58.7 m tower, built in 1891 as a small-scale version of the Eiffel Tower, is owned by the City of Prague and run by Prague City Tourism. Prices below are from the tower page and the admission price list, valid from 1 April 2025 and checked 19 October 2026.

Ticket Admission With lift
Adult 250 CZK 400 CZK
Youth 16–26 200 CZK 350 CZK
Reduced: ages 6–15, seniors over 65, ZTP card holders 170 CZK 320 CZK (seniors 220, ZTP 170)
Family: 2 adults and up to 4 children 500 CZK Lift extra per person
Lítačka card holder 225 CZK 375 CZK
Children under 5 Free Free

The lift surcharge is 150 CZK for adults, children and youth, 50 CZK for seniors, and free for children under 5 and ZTP/ZTP-P holders with one companion. Children under 15 must be with an adult aged 18 or over. The price list also lets Prague Visitor Pass holders in free.

Opening hours (Czech-language tower page, updated 30 September 2026):

  • January–March: 10:00–18:00
  • April–September: 9:00–19:00
  • October: 9:00–18:00
  • November–December: 10:00–18:00

Neither page publishes a last-entry time, so do not arrive in the final half hour.

Stairs or lift?

It is 299 steps to the observation cabin at 51 m, with a covered terrace at 20 m on the way. The lift adds 150 CZK a head, which for a family of four would be 600 CZK on top of the 500 CZK family ticket. If everyone can manage the stairs, climb; if one person cannot, buy the lift only for them.

Skip-the-line and combined tickets

Skip-the-line tickets are sold online only: 320 CZK adult, 210 reduced, 260 youth, 600 family. Pay the premium only if you cannot come early: the half-price first hour is the better deal.

The combined tickets are better value if you will use them:

  • Tower plus Mirror Maze: 300 CZK adult, 200 reduced, 600 family.
  • "3 Petřín Sights" (tower, Mirror Maze and Štefánik Observatory, valid 365 days): 340 CZK adult, 240 reduced, 730 family.
  • "9 Prague Sights" (valid 365 days, including the lifts at the Old Town Hall and Petřín tower): 990 CZK adult, 690 reduced.

The 9-sight ticket includes the Old Town Hall tower; compare it with single tickets in our guide to Old Town Hall tower and Astronomical Clock tickets. Prague City Tourism says it is the only official seller of these tickets, at its own counters and online through ColosseumTicket, and warns that tickets bought elsewhere may not be valid.

A simple Petřín plan

Take tram 9, 12, 15, 20 or 22 to Újezd on a 24-hour ticket, ride the funicular to the top, and be at the tower when it opens for the half-price hour. Afterwards, walk down through the gardens to Újezd or Malostranské náměstí, or across to Strahov, all routes the tower page suggests. For two adults that is 250 CZK for the tower, 280 CZK for two 24-hour app tickets that also cover the rest of the day's trams, and nothing extra for the funicular.
