What a ticket costs
The Medici Chapels belong to the same state museum group as the Galleria dell'Accademia and the Bargello. The Medici Chapels tickets page (last modified 4 May 2026) and the museum page give:
| Ticket | Price | Booking |
|---|---|---|
| Full price | €11 | Optional |
| Reduced, EU citizens aged 18–25 | €2 | Optional |
| Under 18 | Free | Optional |
| Secret Room combined ticket | €32 | Required |
| Secret Room combined, reduced | €7 | Required |
| Five-museum ticket, 72 hours | €38 | Plus €3 if booked |
The two museum pages disagree on the booking fee: the tickets page says €3 and the museum page says €4. Budget €4 if you want a fixed slot for an ordinary visit. Most visitors can skip it; the museum says reservations are optional unless stated otherwise.
The ministry announcement (published 11 March 2026) lists the Medici Chapels among five museums of the group whose single-ticket prices rose, with the Secret Room remaining at €32. Tickets are sold online through B-Ticket, which the tickets page calls "the only official website authorized by the Ministry of Culture", or by phone on +39 055 294883.
Michelangelo's Secret Room
Michelangelo's Secret Room is sold only as a combined ticket with the Medici Chapels. The Secret Room ticket page breaks the €32 into €20 for the room, €9 for museum admission and €3 for the reservation. That breakdown dates from July 2024, when chapel entry cost €9, but the ministry confirms the total stayed at €32 after the 2026 increase.
The museum page sets out the visit rules:
- Booking only: admissions are limited and there are no walk-in places.
- Short and small: each visit lasts 15 minutes, with at most four people per time slot.
- Steps: access is by a narrow 12-step staircase with no lift, so the room is not accessible to people with disabilities or reduced mobility.
- Age: children under 10 and unaccompanied minors are not admitted.
- Health: the museum advises against the visit with heart conditions or claustrophobia, or in advanced pregnancy.
- Bags: large items must be left on the upper floor first.
The reduced €7 Secret Room ticket is for people from 18 until their 25th birthday.

Which ticket fits your plan
- Just the chapels: €11 on the day. With the optional slot, €14–15.
- Chapels plus Secret Room: €32 per person, booked ahead. With four places per slot, this is the booking to make first.
- Chapels, David and the Bargello: the 72-hour ticket page prices it at €38 for the museums of the group over three consecutive days. Single tickets for the three would be €11 + €20 + €12 = €43, using the ministry's prices and the Bargello's own page, so the pass saves €5 before booking fees.
- Chapels and David only: €31 as two single tickets is cheaper than the €38 pass.
Our Accademia (David) tickets guide covers the David part of that bundle, including the Accademia's €4 booking fee. If you are planning many museums in 72 hours, compare with our Firenze Card guide.
Opening hours, closures and free days
The museum page lists (checked 30 October 2026):
- Open: Tuesday to Sunday, 08:15–18:50. Last entry is 40 minutes before closing, so 18:10.
- Closed: Mondays, 25 December 2026 and 1 January 2027.
- Special opening: Monday 30 November 2026, 17:15–21:00, listed under a holiday label ("Lunedì dell'Angelo/Pasquetta", Easter Monday) that does not match the date, so confirm it before planning around it.
Entry is free on the first Sunday of each month under the national #domenicalmuseo scheme. The ministry's notice for Sunday 1 November 2026 names the Medici Chapels and says no reservations will be taken. The museum page also lists 25 April, 2 June and 4 November as free days without giving a year, while the tickets page labels its own list of extra free days as 2024, so confirm Wednesday 4 November 2026 before relying on it. Reservations are not available on any free day, which rules out a Secret Room visit on those dates.
The chapels are at Piazza di Madonna degli Aldobrandini 6. For the other big Florence bookings, see our Duomo and dome climb guide.
