Which ticket to buy
The ticket page lists separate prices for residents and non-residents. As a visitor you are a non-resident, and your choice is between these:
| Ticket (non-residents) | Adult | Concession |
|---|---|---|
| Museum only, no exhibition | €15.00 | €9.50 |
| Museum + "Angeli" exhibition | €16.50 | €11.00 |
| Capitolini Card, 7 days, with Centrale Montemartini | €15.50 | €11.50 |
| Capitolini Card exhibition add-on | €5.50 | €5.50 |
The concession rate applies to non-residents aged 6 to 25, according to the museums' conditions page. There is no over-65 reduction in the list.
The ticket page also lists a separate Diego Rivera exhibition, running from 9 June to 13 December 2026, at €15 standard and €13 reduced, with family tickets at €22 for two adults with children under 18 or €11 for one adult with children. A "Super Combo" covering the Angeli and Rivera exhibitions costs €23.50, or €19.50 reduced. The page notes that the Angeli ticket does not include exhibitions at Villa Caffarelli. If you decide on an exhibition after buying, the ticket information page says you pay the difference at the ticket office.
Booking ahead or buying on the day
Advance tickets, whether bought online, through the 060608 call centre or at the counter for a later date (card only), carry a €1 pre-sale fee and cannot be refunded or changed. Same-day tickets bought at the ticket office have no fee.
The museums do not publish time slots or sell-out warnings for general entry on the pages checked. The practical rule is simple: buy online if your date is fixed and you want certainty, or buy on the day to save €1 and keep your plans open.
Free entry and who qualifies
From the conditions page:
- Everyone, on the first Sunday of each month. The next dates are 1 November and 6 December 2026, and 3 January 2027. The conditions page notes exceptions for some exhibition spaces and shows.
- Children under 6, including non-residents.
- Residents of Rome and the Metropolitan City of Rome, with ID proving residence, a change that Turismo Roma announced from 1 February 2026.
- Visitors with disabilities, plus a family member or carer.
- Holders of the MIC card, ICOM and ICOMOS members, EU licensed tourist guides and several professional groups.
Non-resident children aged 6 to 17 are not free; they pay the 6–25 concession rate.

Hours and closed days
The hours page gives daily opening from 9:30 to 19:30, with last admission one hour before closing. On 24 and 31 December the museums open 9:30–14:00, and they are closed on 1 May and 25 December. New Year's Day 2026 had special hours of 11:00–20:00; the 2027 hours had not been published when checked. Our Rome Christmas and New Year opening guide covers other sights over the holidays.
Entrance and getting there
The museums are at Piazza del Campidoglio 1, on the Capitoline Hill. Turismo Roma lists the Piazza del Campidoglio entrance as the one in use, with a ramp, platform, lifts and stairlifts; the Via delle Tre Pile entrance is described there as temporarily closed.
The museums' own pages do not list public transport directions. Use a journey planner with "Piazza del Campidoglio" as the destination, and see our Rome metro and bus tickets guide for fares and tap-to-pay. The hill is a short walk from the Roman Forum, so it pairs well with a Colosseum and Forum ticket on the same day.
