Colosseum Tickets: What Each Official Ticket Covers

The Colosseum is run by the Parco archeologico del Colosseo, a state body that sells its own tickets online, links its official shop at ticketing.colosseo.it, and opens sales 30 days before the visit date (Parco archeologico del Colosseo, Orari e Biglietti, checked 3 October 2026). The main decision is whether you want the arena floor or the underground, because the standard ticket includes neither. Prices below are full adult prices checked on 3 October 2026.

Which Colosseum ticket should I book?

If you want the classic view from the upper tiers, the 24h ticket is enough. If standing on the arena floor is the point, choose between Only Arena (cheaper, no upper levels) and Full Experience Arena (both). If the underground passages are the point, you need the Underground and Arena ticket.

What the standard 24h ticket covers

The 24h ticket includes the Colosseum's first level, its second level with the panoramic terraces, the Colosseum museum, the Roman Forum with its museum, and the Palatine (Parco archeologico del Colosseo, Colosseo Foro Romano Palatino, checked 3 October 2026). You book a timed slot for the Colosseum; the Forum and Palatine can be visited the same day or within 24 hours before or after that slot. Inside the Colosseum the maximum stay is 75 minutes.

Reduced prices on this ticket are EUR 2.00 for EU citizens from 18 until their 25th birthday (with ID), EUR 11.50 for Roma Pass holders and EUR 14.00 on the park's RAP rate.

Where do the arena and underground tickets fit?

Only Arena costs EUR 18.00 (EUR 2.00 reduced, EUR 11.50 Roma Pass) and gives one 20-minute visit to the arena floor at your booked time, plus the Forum and Palatine within 24 hours before or after; it does not include the upper levels (Parco archeologico del Colosseo, Only Arena, checked 3 October 2026).

Full Experience Arena costs EUR 24.00 (EUR 2.00 reduced) and covers the arena, levels 1 and 2 and the museum with one Colosseum entry at the booked time, plus one Forum-Palatine entry, over two consecutive days. It goes on sale online only 7 days before the visit, and the stay inside the Colosseum is 90 minutes (Parco archeologico del Colosseo, Full Experience Arena, checked 3 October 2026). If it looks unavailable three weeks ahead, that is the release window, not a sell-out.

Full Experience Underground and Arena costs EUR 24.00, EUR 32.00 with an educational tour, and EUR 2.00 reduced. It includes the arena and the underground plus the Forum and Palatine over two consecutive days, goes on sale 30 days ahead, allows 90 minutes in the Colosseum and has a last access time of 16:40 (Parco archeologico del Colosseo, Full Experience Underground and Arena, checked 3 October 2026). The page does not say whether the upper levels are included; check the description in the booking flow if you want both.

Forum Pass SUPER (EUR 18.00, EUR 2.00 reduced) is for skipping the amphitheatre: it covers the Forum, Palatine, Imperial Forums and the SUPER sites, needs no time slot, can be used within 30 days of an online purchase and does not admit you to the Colosseum. It cannot be used on the free first Sunday (Parco archeologico del Colosseo, Forum Pass SUPER, checked 3 October 2026).

Why does the Colosseum ticket need my name and ID?

Every ticket type is nominative, and you must show an identity document with your ticket at the park entrances (Orari e Biglietti, checked 3 October 2026). The park's visitor regulation makes this a rule: article 3 requires each user to enter their own identifying data at purchase, article 7 requires the ticket to be shown together with an identity document at access control, and article 1 forbids reselling tickets or using them for commercial intermediation (Parco archeologico del Colosseo, Regolamento per i visitatori, checked 3 October 2026).

Buying without a reseller markup

Resale is the reason for the strict rules. On 8 April 2025 Italy's competition authority fined the park's ticketing concessionaire CoopCulture EUR 7 million and six tour operators (Tiqets, GetYourGuide, Walks, Italy With Family, City Wonders and Musement) for a total of nearly EUR 20 million, finding that bots had bought up base-price tickets that were then resold in more expensive bundles (AGCM press release PS12603, checked 3 October 2026).

Free entry and the first Sunday

Under-18s, people with a disability and one companion, authorised EU tourist guides and interpreters, and ICOM card holders enter free, and the regulation says all free tickets must be booked online. EU citizens from 18 until their 25th birthday pay EUR 2.00 with ID (Regolamento, checked 3 October 2026).

The first Sunday of every month is free for everyone, as are 25 April, 2 June and 4 November (Orari e Biglietti, checked 3 October 2026). First-Sunday tickets work differently: the park states they cannot be booked and are collected in person at its ticket offices on the day (24h ticket page, checked 3 October 2026). Expect queues, and do not count on a first Sunday if you have only one day in Rome.

Arrival time and opening hours

Your Colosseum slot is fixed. The regulation asks 24h ticket holders to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before and no later than 15 minutes after the booked time.

In October the Colosseum opens at 08:30 and the Forum-Palatine at 09:00, and the park is closed on 25 December 2026 and 1 January 2027 (Orari e Biglietti, checked 3 October 2026).
