What each ticket covers this autumn
To-ji sells several tickets, and the right one changes with the date. These are adult individual prices from the admission page and the autumn 2026 page:
| Dates (2026) | Ticket | Adult |
|---|---|---|
| Until 30 October | Kondo and Kodo | ¥800 |
| Until 30 October | Kondo, Kodo, Kanchi-in and Treasure House | ¥1,500 |
| 31 Oct – 13 Dec | Pagoda first floor, Kondo and Kodo | ¥1,200 |
| 31 Oct – 25 Nov | Pagoda, Kondo, Kodo, Kanchi-in and Treasure House | ¥2,000 |
| 26 Nov – 13 Dec | Pagoda, Kondo, Kodo and Kanchi-in | ¥1,500 |
| 31 Oct – 13 Dec, evening | Kondo and Kodo light-up | ¥1,000 |
| 14 – 31 Dec | Kondo and Kodo | ¥800 |
Kanchi-in, a sub-temple open all year, is ¥600 on its own, and the Treasure House is ¥600 during its exhibition (Art and history of To-ji's five-storied pagoda, to 25 November 2026). For junior high age and under, the pagoda-and-halls ticket is ¥500, the all-in ticket ¥800 and the light-up ¥500.
Which one to buy
- Short visit, main sights only: the ¥1,200 pagoda-and-halls ticket from 31 October. The pagoda's interior is the reason to come in this window.
- Half a day, before 26 November: the ¥2,000 combined ticket. Bought separately, the pagoda-and-halls ticket, Kanchi-in and the Treasure House would cost ¥2,400.
- Evening only: the ¥1,000 light-up. It covers the Kondo and Kodo at night, not the pagoda interior.
Groups of 30 or more get reduced prices on single tickets, but combined tickets and the light-up have no group rate.
Hours and last entry
The gates open at 5:00 and close at 17:00. Inside, last entry depends on the ticket:
| Ticket | Last entry |
|---|---|
| Kondo and Kodo, pagoda, Kanchi-in or Treasure House alone | 16:30 |
| Kondo, Kodo and Kanchi-in combined | 16:00 |
| Combined ticket including the Treasure House | 15:30 |
| Light-up (18:00–21:30) | 21:00 |
The halls and pagoda open at 8:00; Kanchi-in and the Treasure House at 9:00. If you want the all-in ticket, arrive by early afternoon, because its 15:30 cut-off is an hour earlier than the single tickets.

The 21st: Kobo-ichi market day
On the 21st of every month, the temple's Kobo-ichi page says close to 1,000 stalls fill the grounds, and a memorial service for Kobo Daishi is held in the Miedo at 10:00. Upcoming market days are 21 November and 21 December 2026. The temple car park is closed on every 21st, so arrive by train or bus. The page gives no market hours.
If you prefer quiet photographs of the pagoda, avoid the 21st. If you want the flea-market atmosphere, it is the day to go.
Getting to To-ji
The access page lists these routes from Kyoto Station:
- Walk: about 15 minutes (1.1 km) from the Hachijo exit on the south side.
- Kintetsu: to Toji Station, then about 10 minutes (0.6 km) on foot. From the Keihan line, change at Tambabashi.
- City bus from the Hachijo exit: route 16 to Toji Nishimon-mae (about 18 minutes in total) or route 78 to Toji Minamimon-mae (about 26–27 minutes). Route 42 runs from the Karasuma exit to Toji Higashimon-mae.
On the temple's own times, walking (about 15 minutes) beats the bus (18 minutes or more). Fares and passes are in our Kyoto bus and subway guide.
Drivers can use the temple car park (cars ¥600 for two hours, then ¥300 an hour), except on the 21st.
