The two venues at a glance

teamLab runs two permanent museums in Tokyo, one in Toyosu and one at Azabudai Hills, and they are very different to visit. The table compares what each official page publishes (checked 12 October 2026).

The Planets prices come from the Planets official page and its Ticket Store, which also lists a disability-certificate ticket from ¥1,900 and a ¥12,000 Premium Pass (ages 4 and up) with no fixed time and priority entry. teamLab's own Borderless pages do not show prices, hours or an address in the page body, and its ticket site does not display prices without a full browser session. The Borderless prices, hours and address in this guide therefore come from Tokyo's official tourism site, GO TOKYO, whose entry was last updated 19 February 2026, so treat them as a guide and confirm on the ticket site.

Date-dependent prices

The Borderless FAQ, comparing the two museums, says: "Both use seasonal dynamic pricing, with adult admission starting from ¥3,600." The Planets page also says its tickets are subject to dynamic pricing, and its Ticket Store marks the adult price "3,800 JPY ~". So the cheapest dates can fall below the ¥3,800 headline and busy dates can be higher. The examples below use ¥3,800; check the price for your exact date in the ticket calendar before you commit.

Example totals

Using the listed reference prices (checked 12 October 2026), before any date-based change:

  • Two adults and a 9-year-old: ¥9,100 at either venue, or ¥18,200 for both museums.
  • Two adults and a 15-year-old: ¥10,400 at either venue.
  • Solo adult who wants a fixed-time-free visit to Planets: ¥12,000 with the Premium Pass, against ¥3,800 for a timed Entrance Pass.
  • The same family of three buying Borderless at the door on the day: ¥9,700, because each on-site ticket costs ¥200 more, according to GO TOKYO.

Time slots, waiting and late arrival

Both venues sell a ticket for a specific entry time, not a fixed length of stay.

At Planets, the official page says the time on the ticket is your admission time, not a limit on how long you stay. If you arrive late on the same day, staff will still let you in during opening hours, and last admission is one hour before closing. The Ticket Store help warns that you may wait 30 to 60 minutes to get in. The Planets FAQ states that tickets are not sold on site.

At Borderless, the FAQ says there is no limit on how long you stay after your slot, a visit takes about two hours, and in busy periods you may wait outside before entry. GO TOKYO gives last entry as 60 minutes before closing.

What to wear at teamLab Planets

This is where Planets differs most. According to the Planets official page and its Ticket Store help:

  • Some works are in water that reaches an adult's knees. You walk through barefoot, so shoes, socks and tights come off in the locker area.
  • Wear clothes that can get wet, and bring a change of clothes for small children. If you get wet, staff may ask you to change before the next work; towels can be rented.
  • Some rooms have mirrored floors. The help page warns that underwear may be visible under a mini-skirt. Free rental shorts or wraps come in sizes XS to 6L.
  • Heel-less sandals and high heels are unsuitable for some works; free rental shoes are available.
  • Personal belongings are not allowed in the artwork spaces.

Borderless has no water area on the pages read. Its FAQ suggests white or bright solid colours because the artworks are projected onto visitors' clothing, and gives no dress code.

Lockers, luggage and strollers

Planets has free lockers after the entrance gate, 23 cm wide, 34 cm deep and 37 cm high, which is roughly a day pack. Larger bags and suitcases are secured with a wire lock in the stroller storage area, and strollers are left there before you go in.

The Borderless FAQ says strollers are not allowed inside and go to the luggage room. It does not publish locker sizes, so if you are carrying a suitcase on an arrival or departure day, Planets' published arrangement is the more predictable one.

Getting there

Planets is at Toyosu 6-1-16, Koto-ku. Shin-Toyosu Station on the Yurikamome Line is about one minute's walk from the North exit; Shijomae Station is about five minutes, and Toyosu Station on the Yurakucho Line (Exit 7) about ten. The official page puts a taxi at about 10 minutes from Ginza, 15 minutes from Tokyo Station and about 15 minutes by expressway from Haneda Airport, warns that public buses from Tokyo Station, Ginza and Tsukiji to Shin-Toyosu are heavily congested, and says the museum has no parking of its own.

Borderless is in Azabudai Hills Garden Plaza B, B1 floor, 1-2-4 Azabudai, Minato-ku. The FAQ says Kamiyacho Station (Hibiya Line, Exit 5) and Roppongi-itchome Station (Namboku Line, Exit 4) connect directly to the museum, and Ginza is about 10 minutes away on the Hibiya Line.

Both trips are ordinary metro or Yurikamome rides on an IC card; our guide to Suica, PASMO and paying with a foreign card explains which to use. If you are going straight from the airport with luggage, plan the leg first with our Narita and Haneda to central Tokyo guide.

Which one to choose, and when to switch

Pick Planets if you want the water and mirror rooms, are happy to go barefoot, and can visit between 8:00 and 22:00. It suits couples and families with children old enough to wade, and the free lockers make it workable with a day bag.

Pick Borderless if anyone in your group does not want to get wet, you want to wander rather than follow a route, or you are already on the Hibiya or Namboku lines. It is also the fallback when you decide late: GO TOKYO says it sells on-site tickets for ¥200 more if the day is not sold out, while Planets sells online only.

Switch from Planets to Borderless if your chosen Planets date is sold out, falls on 5 November or 3 December 2026, or someone in the group cannot walk through water. Switch from Borderless to Planets if you want the early 8:00 start or a late visit after Borderless' usual 21:00 close. If you want a second ticketed sight on the same trip, our guide to Tokyo Skytree tickets and prices covers how that one is priced.
