What actually carved this landscape
A true fjord is a valley gouged by a glacier, later flooded by rising seas once the ice retreated, leaving the classic U-shaped cross-section fjords are known for. The Bay of Kotor's basins were not carved by glacial ice. The mountains around the bay sit on limestone, a rock that dissolves and collapses over long periods where water moves through it (karst terrain), and the deep, steep-walled basins were shaped primarily by river erosion through that karst landscape, over a much longer and different process than glacial carving.
