Ticket prices and which one to buy
The museum's opening hours and fees page (updated 18 August 2026) lists these prices. Every ticket includes the museum's multimedia tour.
| Visitor | Standard | 16:00–18:00 slot |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | €23.50 | €19.50 |
| Youth up to 25 | €15 | €11 |
| CJP or ISIC card holder | €15 | €11 |
| Child 6–17 | €8 | €8 |
| Child under 6 | Free | Free |
The ticket shop labels the youth ticket "Young adult (18 to 25)", so a 17-year-old pays the child rate. It shows adult tickets "from €19.50" and young adults "from €11", which is the late-afternoon price.
The late slot saves €4 per adult. For two adults with children aged 8 and 12, that is €63 at the standard price and €55 from 16:00. Whether it is worth it depends on the season, because the price page names the hours 16:00–18:00 but the museum closes at 17:00 on many winter days (see below). On those days a 16:00 start leaves you one hour, which is tight for the house, the etchings and the demonstrations. In summer hours, it is a good deal.
Booking a time slot
The museum recommends booking a ticket with a start time online to be sure of getting in, and the ticket shop states that tickets are valid only for the date and time you pick. You can also buy at the museum's register, but the museum says it takes debit cards only, so do not count on paying there with cash or a credit card.
Paid tickets cannot be cancelled. You can, however, change the date or time free of charge through the ticket partner's support page, so book the slot you expect and move it if needed.
Who goes free, and the Museumkaart
The price page lists free entry for holders of the Museumkaart (Museum Card), the I amsterdam City Card, ICOM, the BGL VIP Card, Friends of the Museum and the Rembrandtkaart of the Vereniging Rembrandt. Children under 6 are free, and a companion of a disabled visitor enters free according to the accessibility page.
Free does not mean walk in at any time. Museumkaart holders, students and several other card holders are advised to reserve a time slot; in the ticket shop this is a €0.00 "reservation" ticket covering the City Card, Go City Card, ICOM, Museumkaart, VriendenLoterij VIP card, Stadspas, Vereniging Rembrandt and the museum's Friends pass. The I amsterdam listing is stricter for its own card: City Card holders must reserve a time in advance, choosing "Reservering voor een kaart", and the card must be valid on the day of the visit.

Opening hours, winter hours and Christmas
The museum is open every day from 10:00. The closing time changes with the season, and the price page lists exact dates:
| Dates | Hours |
|---|---|
| Until Sunday 1 November 2026 | 10:00–18:00 |
| 2 November–18 December 2026 | 10:00–17:00 |
| 19–31 December 2026 | 10:00–18:00 |
| 1–3 January 2027 | 10:00–18:00 |
| 4 January–12 February 2027 | 10:00–17:00 |
| From 13 February 2027 | 10:00–18:00 |
The exceptions around the holidays:
- 24 December 2026 (Christmas Eve): 10:00–17:00
- 25 December 2026 (Christmas Day): closed
- 31 December 2026 (New Year's Eve): 10:00–17:00
- 1 January 2027 (New Year's Day): open, 10:00–18:00
- 7 January 2027: closed, no reason given
- 27 April 2027 (King's Day): closed
The page gives no last-entry time. With a 16:00 slot on a 17:00 day you get one hour, so on winter days book a morning or early-afternoon slot.
What the visit includes
The multimedia tour is available in Dutch, English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Hebrew, Arabic, Ukrainian, Turkish and Dutch Sign Language. Children aged 6 and over can follow a separate family tour with Rembrandt's dog Kwast.
According to the families page, museum educators give free painting and etching demonstrations daily between 10:30 and 15:30, with no reservation needed. If you want to catch a demonstration, that is one more reason to avoid the 16:00 slot. Etchings, etching plates and drawings from the collection are on show in the house.

Getting there
The museum is at Jodenbreestraat 4. The museum's route page gives:
- Tram: line 14 to the Waterlooplein stop.
- Metro: any line from Amsterdam Centraal, getting off at Nieuwmarkt; the museum puts the ride at about two minutes.
- On foot: about 15 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal.
- Car: the Waterlooplein, Muziektheater/Stadhuis and Valkenburgerstraat car parks, each about three minutes' walk away.
I amsterdam's public transport page says you can check in and out on trams and the metro with a bank card or phone (OVpay); our guide to GVB fares by card or day ticket compares the two. Arriving from the airport, the Schiphol to the city centre guide covers the train to Centraal, from where the museum is about two minutes by metro or a 15-minute walk.
If your preferred slot is full
Change the time before you change the day: the free rebooking rule means you can grab any open slot now and move it later. If the house is full on the day you want, see our Rijksmuseum tickets guide for the city's other big Rembrandt collection and how its time slots work. On a temporary Museumkaart, each museum you enter counts as one of the five visits.
