What a MAAT ticket costs
MAAT prices depend on where you live, not your nationality. The plan-a-visit page lists:
| Visitor | Lives outside Portugal | Lives in Portugal |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | €16 | €12 |
| Student with ID | €12 | €9 |
| Senior 65+ | No price listed | €10.20 |
| Child under 12 | Free | Free |
The tickets page expresses the reductions as percentages: 25% off for students under 30 with a student card and 15% off for over-65s. The plan-a-visit page prints a senior rate only for residents of Portugal (€10.20), so seniors who live abroad should ask at the ticket desk whether the senior discount applies to them. Discounts cannot be combined, and you must show proof.
Free entry also covers companions of visitors with special needs, MAAT Friends members, ICOM, APOM and AICA members, and press.
The tickets page states one price for "exhibitions" and does not split it by building or show. Events, workshops and tours are priced separately on each activity's page.
Opening hours and closed days
MAAT opens Wednesday to Monday, 10:00–19:00. According to the museum's home page and visit page, it is closed:
- every Tuesday;
- 1 January, 1 May and 25 December;
- from 15:00 on 24 and 31 December.
No last-entry time is published, but the museum warns that the ticket office may close before the advertised time when visitor numbers are high. On a busy weekend afternoon, aim to arrive by mid-afternoon rather than in the last hour. For other places that change hours over the holidays, see our guide to Lisbon at Christmas and New Year.
Getting to MAAT
MAAT sits on the river at Av. Brasília, Belém, beside the Cascais railway line. The museum's directions page recommends public transport:
- Tram: 15E or 18E to Altinho (MAAT).
- Bus: 201, 714, 727 or 751 to Altinho (MAAT); 728 stops at Belém River Station.
- Train: CP's Cascais line to Belém station.
From the tram and bus stop side, the quickest way in is the passage from Rua da Junqueira over the pedestrian footbridge, which lands on the museum's roof. The museum says most public-transport arrivals involve a short walk over a pedestrian bridge, because the railway and Av. Brasília separate it from the city side.
All of these work with the same Navegante card or contactless fares; our Lisbon transport card guide explains the options.

Fitting MAAT into a Belém day
MAAT is in Belém, so it pairs naturally with the district's monuments. If you want the history behind the waterfront, our piece on Belém's Discovery monuments adds context before you go. Visit Lisboa also lists a combined "CABE" ticket for Contemporary Art Belém, covering MAAT, MACAM, MAC/CCB and the Julião Sarmento Pavilion, but it does not show a price; ask at the MAAT desk if you plan to see several of them.
