How much are Jerónimos and Belém Tower tickets?
Both monuments are run by Museus e Monumentos de Portugal and share one official visit page. Prices checked 19 October 2026:
| Visitor | Jerónimos (cloister) | Belém Tower |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | €18 | €15 |
| Over 65 | 50% off | 50% off |
| Ages 13–24 | 50% off | 50% off |
| Up to age 12 | Free | Free |
| Family ticket (at least one adult and one minor) | 50% band, ticket office only | 50% band, ticket office only |
The page lists no combined ticket. Two adults doing both pay €66. Add a 15-year-old at half price and a 10-year-old for free and the total is €82.50 at full adult prices (€45 at the monastery, €37.50 at the tower). Because the page also puts a family ticket in the 50% band at the physical ticket office, that family should ask at the kiosk whether the adults can be included at half price before paying the €82.50.
Other free categories include EU-resident unemployed visitors, visitors with a certified disability of 60% or more plus one companion, and teachers and students when the visit is shown to be a study visit. Bring proof of eligibility; for the disability category the page says a valid document is shown at the monument entrance. There are no audio guides.
Free for residents: Acesso 52
If you live in Portugal, Portuguese citizen or legal foreign resident, the Acesso 52 scheme gives free entry on up to 52 days a year at 37 state museums, monuments and palaces. Since 20 August 2026 residents can book these free tickets online for Jerónimos and the tower, which guarantees the chosen day and time. Visitors from abroad do not qualify.
Opening hours and closed days
From the official visit page (checked 19 October 2026):
| Days | Hours | Last entry | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jerónimos cloister | Tuesday–Sunday | 9:30–17:30 | 17:00 |
| Jerónimos church | Tuesday–Saturday | 10:30–17:00 | |
| Jerónimos church | Sundays, religious holidays | 14:00–17:00 | |
| Belém Tower | Tuesday–Sunday | 9:30–17:30 | 17:00 |
Both close on Mondays and on 1 January, Easter Sunday, 1 May, 13 June and 25 December. The monastery can also close for state events, and the tower for weather-related safety reasons. The ticket office, a kiosk in front of the monument, closes at 16:30, half an hour before last entry.
Monday is the trap. Belém's two headline monuments are both shut, so swap your Belém day if your itinerary puts it on a Monday.
Booking: online, at the kiosk or with the Lisboa Card
The official page recommends buying online in advance because same-day tickets often sell out. Tickets are sold on Blueticket, with one event for the Jerónimos cloister and one for Belém Tower, both linked from the official visit page. Turismo de Lisboa's Jerónimos page describes visits as booked by date and time.
Lisboa Card holders get free entry to both, with conditions set out in Turismo de Lisboa's how the card works and FAQ pages (both dated 19 August 2026):
- Exchange the emailed voucher for the physical card at an Askme Lisboa desk first.
- Book a date and time on the monuments' ticket portal using the card number; it issues a free ticket with an access code.
- Validate the card at the access terminal on the day.
The FAQ adds that cardholder access depends on daily capacity and cannot be booked far ahead, so a card bought for a Tuesday morning in August is not a guaranteed slot. If those two monuments are the reason you are buying the card, check availability as soon as you have it in hand.
Getting to Belém
Belém is west of the centre along the river. Two public options, both on official pages:
- Tram 15E runs from Praça da Figueira via Praça do Comércio and Cais do Sodré to Algés. Get off at Mosteiro Jerónimos; "Belém (Museu Coches)" is one stop earlier and "Centro Cultural Belém" one stop later (Carris route 15E). The holiday/winter timetable shown on 19 October 2026 had trams roughly every 10–16 minutes during the day and about every 15 minutes in the evening. Carris also flagged a temporary change on route 15E that day, so check the route page.
- Train on CP's Cascais line from Cais do Sodré to Belém station. In CP's timetable for 5 July 2026, the ride took 8 minutes (CP Cascais timetable). That timetable was for a single date, so check the current one before relying on it.
A Carris/Metro single on a Navegante Ocasional card is €1.90, and a 24-hour Carris/Metro ticket €7.25 (Metro de Lisboa fares, from 1 January 2026). Our guides to Zapping or Navegante and Lisbon's trams and elevadores cover which to load.
Order of the day
Do the monastery first if you have a morning slot: the cloister opens at 9:30, and the church opens at 10:30 from Tuesday to Saturday but only at 14:00 on Sundays. Then walk west along the riverfront to the tower. For the history behind the Padrão dos Descobrimentos and the rest of the waterfront, read Belém's Discovery monuments and the history they leave out.
