Which lifts and funiculars are running?

Carris runs all five. Its own fleet pages and news page (checked 19 October 2026) give this picture:

The Portuguese ascensores page marks both Glória and Lavra "Encerrado temporariamente", and the funiculars page labels Bica "out of service". Carris's news page carries an undated notice that its ascensores and the elevador (Santa Justa) are in testing and out of service. We could not open Carris's own Santa Justa page on 19 October 2026, so check it before you go. None of these pages gives a reopening date.

What happened to the Glória funicular

Carris's news page lists a funeral notice and a company statement dated 3 September 2025 about the accident on the Glória funicular, a support line for those affected, and the creation of a mission team to design a new technological system for the future Glória funicular. It has published no date for its return. Of the five lines, Graça, which Carris reopened on 30 April 2026, is the only one Carris shows as running.

Getting up the hills without them

The replacement buses are ordinary Carris routes, so the normal 2026 fares apply: €1.72 in zapping on a navegante card, or €2.30 bought on board.

Instead of Glória (Restauradores to Bairro Alto): Carris names bus 51E Glória / circulação Largo do Carmo as the alternative.

Instead of Bica (Rua de São Paulo to Calhariz): Carris recommends 22B. Its route page runs a loop from Cais do Sodré with stops at Calhariz (Bica) and R. S. Paulo (Bica), plus Praça Luís de Camões and Príncipe Real. The holiday timetable it shows runs from 7:05 to 20:25, about every 30 minutes, and the page carries two service-change notices of its own, so check it on the day.

Instead of Lavra (Anunciada to Torel): Carris adjusted the route and stops of 19B while the Lavra stays suspended.

Instead of Santa Justa: Carris names no replacement. For the climb from the Baixa to Chiado, tram 28 stops at R. Conceição in the Baixa and then at Chiado.

The Graça funicular: hours and tickets

Carris's reopening notice says the funicular between Mouraria and Graça reopened on 30 April 2026 after technical checks, and moved to longer hours from 15 May 2026:

  • Daily, 7:00 to 21:00
  • From Rua dos Lagares: 7:00 to 20:45; from the Miradouro: 7:05 to 20:50
  • 14 passengers per trip
  • €4.30 on board, valid for up to two trips; navegante pass holders get priority boarding

With 14 places per run, if 30 people are queuing ahead of you, you board on the third departure. A family of four going up and back down pays €17.20 in on-board tickets.

Ticket prices when the closed lines reopen

Carris still publishes on-board fares for the lifts in its 2026 fares notice (checked 19 October 2026):

The notice lists the funiculars and the lift only with these on-board prices; it does not say whether zapping or the 24-hour Carris/Metro ticket is accepted on them.
