Gimpo International Airport mostly handles domestic flights within Korea, along with a handful of regional international routes such as some connections to Japan and China. It is a separate airport from Incheon International Airport (ICN), which handles the bulk of long-haul international traffic into Seoul. If your itinerary shows "GMP," you are at Gimpo, and none of the Incheon-specific transfer details — different terminals, different bus network — apply here. Do not assume the two airports share facilities or transit options.
AREX: fast, but ends at Seoul Station
The Airport Railroad Express (AREX) connects Gimpo Airport to Seoul Station in about 23 minutes, according to the Korea Tourism Organization's official transportation guide. This is a quick, direct ride if Seoul Station is genuinely near where you are going, or if you need to transfer onward to KTX high-speed rail or a subway line that stops there.
Subway: three lines serve Gimpo directly
Gimpo Airport is also served directly by subway Line 5, Line 9, and the Gimpo Goldline. Because these are ordinary subway lines rather than an airport express, they can put you within walking distance of your destination without requiring a change at Seoul Station, depending on which neighborhood you are heading to.
- Line 5: useful if your destination sits along its route through central and eastern Seoul.
- Line 9: runs through southern Seoul, including areas along the Han River's south side.
- Gimpo Goldline: a shorter line focused on connecting Gimpo's residential areas, useful if you are staying in that district specifically.
Check a current subway map or transit app for your destination station before choosing, since the right line depends entirely on where you are going, not on which is objectively "faster."
