Instant refunds skip the airport step entirely
Instant, or immediate, refunds are available at eligible duty-free and tax-free shops for single payments between KRW 15,000 and KRW 1,000,000, with a total refunded amount capped at KRW 5,000,000 per trip. You show your passport at checkout, and the discount is applied without any separate paperwork at that moment. This is the simplest path if your individual purchases fall inside that range and you're buying from a participating shop.
Every eligible receipt still needs to meet the general minimum: a purchase has to be at least KRW 15,000 to qualify for a tax refund at all, instant or otherwise.
Downtown booths and the airport process handle everything else
If a purchase doesn't qualify for instant refund, or you're claiming through a downtown tax-refund booth, you'll need an international credit card at the booth, and an individual receipt there cannot exceed KRW 6,000,000. For purchases you're claiming at the airport instead, the process runs through customs before you go through the departure gates.
Where the Incheon Airport refund points actually are
At Incheon Airport Terminal 1, refund counters are on 3F in the Duty Free Zone near Gate 28, with kiosks on 3F Concourse near the central pharmacy and 3F Duty Free Zone near Gate 28. At Terminal 2, refund counters are on 3F near check-in counters G and F and 3F Duty Free Zone near Gate 253, with kiosks on 3F Duty Free Zone near Gates 250 and 253. Confirm which terminal your flight departs from before you plan your timing, since the two terminals aren't connected on the airside.
What to check before you rely on this
Refund amounts, thresholds, and counter locations can change, and this guide reflects what was confirmed on the Korea Tourism Organization's official page as of 2026-09-07. If your trip involves a Gimhae Airport departure instead of Incheon, this guide does not confirm whether an equivalent refund kiosk exists there — check directly with that airport before assuming the same process applies.
If your total purchases are close to the KRW 5,000,000 instant-refund trip cap or the KRW 6,000,000 downtown receipt cap, it's worth tracking your running total as you shop so you know in advance which refund route each receipt will need.
