Getting to Xinbeitou by MRT
The Taipei City Government's hot spring transport page gives one MRT route from Taipei Main Station: the Tamsui-Xinyi line towards Beitou or Tamsui, a change at Beitou, then the short branch to Xinbeitou. The foot baths and the Hot Spring Museum below are all reached on foot from Xinbeitou station.
For paying the fare, our guide to EasyCard vs iPASS explains which stored-value card to pick if you will also use buses and the Maokong Gondola.

The Beitou Park public bath is closed
The public hot spring bath in Beitou Park is run by the city's Parks and Street Lights Office. Its FAQ on the bath, updated on 30 September 2026, says the bath has been closed since 24 January 2025 for a rebuilding project, the works are expected to be completed by 31 October 2026, and the opening date will be announced on the official website. The same FAQ still lists the bath's fees as NT$60, or NT$30 for seniors, in sessions between 05:30 and 22:00; treat them as a guide until the reopening notice confirms them.
Treat 31 October as the end of construction, not an opening day. Check the FAQ again in the week you travel, and do not plan a Beitou day around this bath alone.
Certified hotels and bathhouses
Taipei's Department of Information and Tourism says that as of 31 October 2025, 46 businesses in the city held the official hot spring mark (溫泉標章), 34 of them in the Xinbeitou hot spring area (city FAQ). To choose one before you go, use the Tourism Administration's register of mark holders, which can be filtered to 臺北市 and lists each business's address, spring type, expiry date, issuing authority and water test certificate. The register does not say which businesses sell day-use bathing without a stay, or at what price, so ask the business directly.
Swimwear rules differ between shared pools and private rooms. Our guide to Taiwan's hot spring rules covers what to wear, who should not bathe and how the mark works.
Free foot baths
The city's Department of Economic Development runs three free foot bath parks; its opening-hours page gives the same hours for all three: Tuesday to Sunday, 08:00 to 18:00. Two are reachable on foot from Xinbeitou station:
- Fuxing Park (復興公園), opposite 61 Zhonghe Street. Leave MRT Xinbeitou station, turn left and walk about 250 m (Fuxing Park page).
- Quanyuan Park (泉源公園), opposite Yifang Elementary School at 155 Zhuhai Road. From Xinbeitou station, follow Zhonghe Street, turn right onto Zhuhai Road and walk about 10 to 15 minutes (Quanyuan Park page).
The third, the Sulphur Valley (硫磺谷) foot bath, keeps the same hours but is not covered in this guide.
The foot bath rules ask you to wash your feet before and after, not to bathe your body, not to wash your face because the water is acidic, and to soak for no more than 15 minutes at a time. People with skin disease, open wounds or who have been drinking may not use the pools, and people with heart, lung, blood pressure or circulation conditions should follow medical advice.
Qianshan Park public bath
The city also lists a free public bath at Qianshan Park (前山公園) (free bathing page), and the Parks Office FAQ refers to separate men's and women's baths. Session times are published only in a timetable that could not be read for this guide, and the FAQ says unexpected closures are posted on its website and at the bath, or you can call 02-2861-6361 extension 204 to confirm. Treat it as a possibility to check, not a plan.
Beitou Hot Spring Museum and Thermal Valley
The Beitou Hot Spring Museum, at 2 Zhongshan Road, does not publish its opening hours on its website. Its own learning handbook (an undated PDF) gives Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 17:00, closed on Mondays and on national holidays except those that fall at a weekend (museum handbook). Because the document carries no date, phone the number on the museum's home page, 02-2893-9981, before making a special trip, and do not plan a Monday visit. The museum's site does not state an admission fee.
Thermal Valley (地熱谷) is one of the sources of Beitou's hot spring water, next to the Beitou hot spring park (Taipei Travel, Chinese). The city's tourism listing shows 09:00 to 17:00 but labels only Sunday in its hours table, so check the days locally. It notes that boiling eggs in the water, once common, is now prohibited.
A sample Beitou afternoon
- Arrive at Xinbeitou by MRT on any day except Monday, ideally early afternoon.
- Walk 250 m to the Fuxing Park foot bath for a 15-minute soak, or skip it if you plan a full bath later.
- Walk to the Hot Spring Museum and on to Thermal Valley before 17:00.
- Finish with a soak at a certified hotel or bathhouse you have checked on the register, then take the MRT back via Beitou.
If you want a second half-day outside the centre, the Maokong Gondola is on the opposite side of the city and also closes on some Mondays.
