Where does a card work in Taipei?
The table below covers places where the operator itself publishes what it accepts. All were checked on 3 October 2026.

Public transport
Taipei Metro says passengers can tap Visa, Mastercard, JCB, UnionPay, Diners Club, Discover and other bank cards directly at the gates, and that Apple Pay (including Express Mode), Google Pay and Samsung Pay also work (page updated 1 July 2026). The same page notes that stored-value cards such as EasyCard, iPASS and iCASH work on public transport and for small payments.
On the Airport MRT, Taoyuan Metro accepts contactless Visa, Mastercard, JCB and UnionPay cards, and NFC phone wallets, at the full single-journey fare. If you tap in with a card and don't tap out properly, the operator can charge the fare to your card. Convenience stores
7-Eleven's payment page lists credit cards as accepted "by contactless payment only", and names foreign cards as Visa, Mastercard and JCB. It also lists stored-value e-tickets and QR wallets as payment tools. If your card has no contactless symbol, or is on another network, pay at 7-Eleven with cash or an EasyCard.
EasyCard Corporation's scope page shows the card used on transit, taxis, parking and in supermarket, shop and food categories, but it does not promise acceptance at every outlet. Look for the EasyCard logo at the till.
Taxis
The airport taxi fleet's FAQ says passengers can pay cash, by bank card, or with Apple Pay, Google Pay, LINE Pay, JKOPAY and other wallets. That applies to the airport rank fleet only. Where should you plan to pay cash?
None of the official sources checked lists card acceptance at individual night-market stalls, temple offering counters or small family-run eateries, and a national payment statistic cannot tell you what one stall accepts. Treat any counter with no card reader, EasyCard logo or QR sign as cash-only.

How do you get cash in Taipei?
- 7-Eleven ATMs: 7-Eleven's ATM page describes its in-store CTBC Bank ATMs as available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with international card withdrawal (國際金融卡提款) among the services. Your own bank's foreign-withdrawal fees still apply, so check them before you travel.
- At the airport: the airport's facilities directory lists 24-hour Bank of Taiwan currency exchange on 1F of both terminals, and a 24-hour Mega Bank counter on 1F of Terminal 2.
If a card is declined at a till, try tapping instead of inserting (7-Eleven takes credit cards by tap only), then switch to cash or EasyCard. Withdraw before an evening at a market rather than looking for an ATM once you're there.
