Taipei Zoo ticket prices

The zoo's English ticket page lists these prices (checked 12 October 2026):

Ticket Price
General admission NT$100
Discount admission NT$50
Taipei resident NT$60
Group of 30 or more NT$70 each
Education Center NT$20 (discount NT$10)
Visitor shuttle train NT$5 a ride

Who gets the discount or free entry is set out in the zoo's Chinese-language visitor FAQ:

  • Children aged 0 to 5 enter free, and children aged 6 to 11 pay NT$50. Citing the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the zoo applies this to all children under 12, including foreign nationals, but they must show a document with a photo that proves their age, so carry the child's passport.
  • Students aged 12 and over need a current student ID from their school for the NT$50 fare; the zoo names a valid ISIC card as the accepted international student card.
  • People aged 65 and over enter free only with a Taiwanese ID card or residence permit. Foreign seniors without one pay NT$100.

If you are entitled to a discount but have no document with you, you pay the adult price. For two adults with children aged 8 and 4, the total is NT$250.

Paying at the gate

Online ticket sales are suspended, according to both the English and Chinese ticket pages. You have two ways in:

  • Tap a physical EasyCard, iPASS or icash card at the entrance gate. It deducts the NT$100 adult fare, so this only suits adults paying full price.
  • Use a ticket machine. There are machines at the main entrance and beside the entrance by the gondola's Taipei Zoo South station. They take cash, credit cards, stored-value cards and Pay Taipei.

Anyone entitled to a child or ISIC fare should show the document at the entrance, as the zoo asks, rather than tapping a card at the full fare. Tickets cannot be refunded once you have entered, unused tickets can be refunded until 16:00 on the day, and you can re-enter the same day with a hand stamp from the exit.

Opening hours and Monday closures

The opening times page gives 9:00 to 17:00 for the zoo, last entry at 16:00, and 9:00 to 16:30 for the animal exhibits. The zoo itself opens on Mondays, but individual indoor houses take turns to close:

Indoor house Closed on
Giant Panda House First Monday of the month
Pangolin Dome (rainforest indoor house) Second Monday
Penguin House Second Monday
Amphibian and Reptile House Third Monday
Insectarium Fourth Monday
Eco-House and Education Center Every Monday

The whole zoo closes on Lunar New Year's Eve, from 22 June to 1 July 2026, and on days when the Taipei City Government suspends work for a typhoon or other natural disaster (Chinese opening-hours page).

Single exhibits also close for a few days at a time. On 12 October 2026 the zoo's home page listed the Asian elephant exhibit closed from 12 to 18 October and the brown spider monkeys from 13 to 21 October, so check its park notices for the animal you most want to see.

Getting there by MRT

The zoo's transport page says to take the Wenhu line to Taipei Zoo station. Many bus routes also stop at MRT Taipei Zoo station, including 236, 237, 282, 294, 295, 611, 676, 679, 793 and 933.

For paying the MRT fare, see EasyCard vs iPASS; the same card then gets you through the zoo gate and onto the gondola.

Pairing the zoo with the Maokong Gondola

The gondola's lower terminus, its Taipei Zoo Station, is about 350 m south-west of MRT Taipei Zoo station, at No. 8, Section 2, Xinguang Road (gondola stations page). That makes the two an easy pair, and the order matters:

  1. Zoo first. Last entry is 16:00 and animal exhibits close at 16:30, so the zoo has to fill the morning and early afternoon.
  2. Gondola second. The gondola runs into the evening, so ride up to Maokong after the zoo and come back down after dark.
  3. Check Mondays twice. The gondola also stops for maintenance on set Mondays and in strong wind or lightning. Our Maokong Gondola guide has its fares, hours, the remaining 2026 closure dates and the weather rules.

The zoo's own FAQ also mentions a second zoo entrance beside the gondola's Taipei Zoo South station, with ticket machines. If you leave the zoo and come back in there, show your hand stamp and pay NT$5 for the visitor train.
