Wat Pho entrance fee
Wat Pho, formally Wat Phra Chetuphon, publishes one admission price on its English visit plan: 300 baht, with free entry for children under 120 cm. The Thai-language version of the same page is more specific about who pays: foreigners buy a ticket at 300 baht per person. It does not list a fee for Thai visitors (both checked 12 October 2026).
Neither page says what else the ticket includes, whether it can be bought online, or which payment methods the counter takes. Plan to buy at the temple and bring baht in cash.
| Visitor | Price (checked 12 October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Foreign adult | 300 baht |
| Child under 120 cm | Free |
Two adults with a child shorter than 120 cm pay 600 baht in total. A family whose child has passed 120 cm pays 300 baht for that child too, so the height line, not age, decides it.
Opening hours
The temple is open every day from 8:00 to 19:30, according to the Thai visit plan. The English page gives the same 8:00–19:30 hours. Neither page lists closing days or holiday exceptions, and neither gives a last-entry time.
Because the temple stays open into the evening, Wat Pho is the flexible part of a day in this district. The neighbouring Grand Palace has much shorter hours, which shapes the order of a combined visit (see below).
Dress code and temple conduct
The two versions of the visit plan word the clothing rule differently. The English page's general note says "no shorts, although trousers are permitted", while its visitor tips and the Thai page say women may not wear shorts above the knee. Trousers or a skirt that covers the knee satisfy both wordings, so dress to that standard whoever you are.
The temple's visitor tips also ask you to:
- take off your shoes and leave them on the shelf before entering a religious building
- stay calm and quiet, since the grounds are used for religious rites
- never step on a Buddha image; only authorised staff may climb Buddha images to clean them or place offerings
- remember that women may not enter areas reserved for monks' rites or touch monks or novices
Photography is allowed in the temple and at its monuments, per the same page.
Thai massage at Wat Pho: prices and hours
Wat Pho hosts a Thai traditional medical school, and its massage service is listed on the visit plan with prices in baht (checked 12 October 2026):
| Treatment | 30 min | 60 min | 120 min |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thai massage | 340 | 520 | 1,040 |
| Foot massage | 340 | 520 | 1,040 |
| Thai massage with balm | — | 680 | 1,360 |
| Thai massage with plai oil | — | 620 | 1,240 |
The service runs daily from 8:00 to 19:30. The Thai version of the page names the balm and plai oil options as herbal balm and herbal oil massages; ask at the desk if you want to know exactly what each involves.
The massage price is separate from the 300-baht entry. Two adults who each take a 60-minute Thai massage spend 600 baht on entry and 1,040 baht on massages, 1,640 baht in all.
Getting to Wat Pho
The temple's address is on Sanam Chai Road and Maharaj Road, beside the Grand Palace. The Trip to Wat Pho page lists these options (checked 12 October 2026):
- MRT Blue Line: use exit 1, which the page labels the Wat Pho station exit.
- Chao Phraya Express Boat: the page's directions finish with a cross-river ferry to Tha Tien Pier, on the temple side. The Grand Palace's own directions instead ride the express boat straight to Tha Tien (N8).
- Bus: ordinary routes 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 25, 32, 44, 47, 48, 53 and 82; air-conditioned routes A1, A4, A12, A44, A48, 507 and 508.
- Car: parking on Chetuphon Road at 20 baht per hour.
For fares, stops and how to pay on the metro, see our guide to using the BTS and MRT for the first time. If you prefer the river, our guide to Bangkok's river and canal boats explains the express boat lines and piers.
Combining Wat Pho with the Grand Palace
The two sites are neighbours, but their hours differ sharply. The Grand Palace's official ticket page gives opening hours of 8:30 to 16:30 with tickets sold only from 8:30 to 15:30, at 500 baht for foreign visitors (checked 12 October 2026). Wat Pho stays open until 19:30.
For two adults, the day's admissions come to 1,600 baht: 1,000 baht at the Grand Palace and 600 baht at Wat Pho. Add 1,040 baht if both take an hour-long Thai massage. Check the palace's own exemptions and closure days in our Grand Palace tickets and hours guide before you set the day; Wat Pho's own pages list no closing days.
