Ticket prices at Royal Museums Greenwich

Royal Museums Greenwich runs all four sites. Its tickets and prices page lists these prices (checked 12 October 2026). Child tickets cover ages 4 to 15, and under-4s go free to every site.

Ticket Adult Child 4–15 Student with ID
Royal Observatory £24 £12 £18
Cutty Sark £22 £11 £16.50
Day Pass (Observatory + Cutty Sark) £38 £19 £28.50

The page lists no separate family ticket and no different price for buying on the day. Tickets are sold online with a date and entry time and, subject to availability, at the admissions desks; the museum recommends booking online where possible.

What the Day Pass saves

The Day Pass is worth it only if you want both paid sites on the same day, which in practice means before 2 November 2026:

  • One adult: £38 against £46 for separate tickets, saving £8.
  • Two adults and two children aged 6 and 12: £114 against £138 separately, saving £24.
  • The same family visiting only Cutty Sark after the Observatory closes: £66.

A student pays £28.50 for the pass against at least £34.50 for the two tickets. Membership, from £58 a year for an individual one-off payment, also covers both sites, but it is aimed at repeat visitors.

The Royal Observatory closes from 2 November 2026

This is the single fact that changes most Greenwich plans. The Observatory's closures page lists the whole site as closed all day from 2 November 2026 for the "First Light" transformation project, and the Peter Harrison Planetarium and Astronomy Centre have already been closed long term since 8 September 2025.

The transformation page says the Meridian Courtyard, where the Prime Meridian line is, is due to reopen in summer 2027, with tickets going on sale in January, and that the work is due to be complete by spring 2028. Until 1 November 2026 a ticket includes the Prime Meridian line, an audio guide and a guaranteed entry time (Royal Observatory page).

At the National Maritime Museum, Astronomers Take Over costs £18 for an adult with the planetarium or £8 for the experience only (£16 for a child with the planetarium), per the museum page. Entry to the museum itself is free and booking is optional, though booking guarantees entry; paid exhibitions are extra.

Opening hours and last entry

All four sites open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, according to the opening times page. Last entry is 16:15 for Cutty Sark, the National Maritime Museum and Queen's House.

For the Royal Observatory, the venue's own page gives last entry at 16:00, while the opening-times table says 16:15. Plan on 16:00 and arrive before it, because the Observatory sits at the top of a hill in Greenwich Park. The museum warns that sites occasionally close early, so check the closures pages on the day.

Getting to Greenwich by DLR, train or boat

The museum's getting here page gives three main rail and river options. Which one suits you depends on where you start and which site you want first.

Option Where you arrive Best for
DLR to Cutty Sark (for Maritime Greenwich) 2 minutes' walk to Cutty Sark, 7 to the National Maritime Museum Starting from the City, Canary Wharf or Stratford
National Rail to Greenwich or Maze Hill Greenwich is closest to Cutty Sark; Maze Hill to the museum, Queen's House and Observatory Starting near London Bridge or Cannon Street, which have direct trains
Uber Boat by Thames Clippers to Greenwich Pier Next to Cutty Sark; 5 minutes' walk to the museum and Queen's House A sightseeing journey along the river

The DLR connects with the Underground at Bank, Canary Wharf, Tower Gateway and Stratford, and you pay with a contactless card or Oyster like on the Tube; our guide to Tube and bus fares on a bank card explains capping. From Cutty Sark or the pier, the Royal Observatory is a walk up the hill through Greenwich Park; buses 53, 54, 202 and 380 stop near it.

River boat fares and times

The museum gives boat journey times of about 20 minutes from Tower Pier, 25 from London Bridge Pier and 45 from London Eye Pier, with boats from major piers every 20 minutes; the operator's route map lists Tower to Greenwich at 23 minutes.

The river is split into West, Central and East zones, and the operator's ticket information says Tower to Greenwich needs a Central and East ticket. Adult single fares for that journey (checked 12 October 2026):

  • £13.50 in the app or online
  • £17.70 bought at the pier
  • £13.70 with contactless or Oyster at peak times, which include all day at weekends and on bank holidays
  • £11.40 with contactless or Oyster off-peak, which the operator defines as Monday to Friday 06:35 to 09:27

Children aged 5 to 15 pay half the adult fare, and up to two children aged 4 and under travel free per paying adult. The operator says these contactless fares run until 31 October 2026 and that revised fares will follow, so check again for November travel.

If you are also visiting the Tower of London before boarding at Tower Pier, see Tower of London tickets and Tower Bridge tickets for their entry times.
