Key dates for the 2026 tree

The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree page states that "the 2026 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree arrives November 7" and will be lit on December 2. Everything else is still marked "check back".

Date What happens Status on 22 October 2026
Sat 7 November Tree arrives on the Plaza; Meet The Tree Day (second year) Confirmed; event details not published
Wed 2 December Tree Lighting Ceremony Confirmed; start time not published
From Thu 3 December Ticketed tree experiences Bookable on Rockefeller Center's site
Early January Tree taken down 2026 date not published; the 2025 tree came down on 10 January

Between 7 November and 2 December the tree is on the Plaza but not yet lit. If you are in New York only in mid-November, you can see the tree arrive or stand in place, but not the lights.

Time Out New York, citing Rockefeller Center, reported on 29 September 2026 that the tree's height, origin and the ceremony's performers had not been announced yet. That matched what the official pages showed when we checked.

Is lighting night worth it?

For most visitors, no. Rockefeller Center's tree lighting page gives the date but no start time, no description of public viewing areas and no access rules. Its FAQ section was empty when we checked. You would be planning an evening around an event whose arrangements are not public yet.

The tree is the same on 3 December as it is on 2 December, and from then on Rockefeller Center sells tickets that guarantee a close view. Choose lighting night only if being there for the moment the lights come on matters more to you than a predictable visit. In that case, check the official page again in late November for times and viewing arrangements before you commit.

Ways to see the lit tree from 3 December

The tree stands in a public plaza, and the paid options sell "up-close" access or a package around it. Rockefeller Center had not said how general viewing from the street will be managed in 2026. Prices below are the "from" prices on Rockefeller Center's ticket page, checked 22 October 2026.

Option From What it adds Who it suits
Official Christmas Tree Photo $50 Professional digital photos and up-close tree access Families who want the classic photo
Holiday Timed Admission, Top of the Rock $42 Observation deck plus up-close tree access First-time visitors doing a deck anyway
Holiday Chalets or 90th Anniversary Lodges $50 50 minutes in a private space for up to 6 or 8 guests, overlooking the rink and tree Groups wanting a warm, seated view
Holiday VIP Rock Pass $300 Two-hour package including a "Christmas Tree Experience 12/3 – 1/3" Visitors combining a tour, deck and tree

The two tree-access ticket links on the official site use 3 December 2026 as their first date. The VIP Rock Pass describes its tree experience as running "12/3 – 1/3" without a year. An older Top of the Rock social post on the same page mentions "Dec 4 – Jan 10", which appears to be last season's wording. Book with the dates the ticket calendar actually offers you.

Skating under the tree

The Rink at Rockefeller Center is open for the 2026–27 season, daily from 9am to midnight, with hours that change on holidays and event days. General Skate is from $22 for a 60-minute session and VIP Skate from $131 with rental included. The page says you can bring your own skates or rent on site, and that every guest entering the rink needs a valid ticket, including non-skaters.

The rink page says nothing about lighting day. Hours "vary throughout the season, including holidays and special events", so check the ticket calendar for 2 December before booking that date.

If the Rockefeller rink is sold out or too pricey, the free-admission rink in Bryant Park's Winter Village is about seven blocks south, between 40th and 42nd Streets.
