Strahov Library ticket prices
The visitor information page lists two self-guided tickets:
| Ticket | Library only | Joint Tour |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | 220 CZK | 390 CZK |
| Reduced | 110 CZK | 220 CZK |
| Family (1–2 adults + up to 5 children under 14) | 460 CZK | 790 CZK |
The Joint Tour adds the art gallery and other historic parts of the abbey to the library; it does not include the church and still does not enter the library halls. The gallery has no separate ticket.
The reduced rate covers children aged 6–17, students up to 26 with an ISIC card, teachers with an ITIC card, and seniors aged 65 and over. Children under 6 enter free but still need a free ticket.
Online or at the ticket office
You can buy online or at the box office in St Roch's Church, by the monastery's main gate. The online tickets page says an e-ticket is valid for the date and number of people printed on it and is scanned at the turnstile from your phone or a printout.
Any ticket that needs an ID check, such as ISIC, ITIC or group tickets, is sold only at the ticket office, so students should go to the desk. The pages mention no online discount; booking ahead simply fixes your date.
What you actually see on a standard ticket
The library page states plainly that the regular route does not include entry into the halls, to protect the books. The monastery shortened the route after long-term measurements showed that humidity changes and dust were damaging the frescoes, furniture and books.
On the self-guided route you see:
- The Theological Hall, built in the early 1670s, viewed from its doorway, with a collection of globes in front of it.
- The Philosophical Hall, built 1782–1797 with a ceiling painting by Franz Anton Maulbertsch, also viewed from the doorway, according to the tours page.
- A cabinet of curiosities bought in 1798, with late 18th-century display cases.
- The library anteroom, with facsimiles of medieval manuscripts and early printed books.
The monastery recommends about 40 minutes. The custodians can provide tour texts on request.

Going inside the halls
Two guided options include the halls themselves, and both must be arranged in advance:
| Tour | Price | Halls | Booking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guided Tour of Strahov Monastery | 890 CZK | Theological and Philosophical halls, up to 25 minutes, within an 80-minute tour | Email abbeytour@strahovskyklaster.cz; English on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays |
| Guided Tour of Strahov Library with Access to the Halls | Not published | Both halls with a guide | Through the monastery's promotions staff; numbers limited |
Choose the abbey tour if your dates include a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday and seeing the halls from inside is the reason you are going. Choose the standard ticket for a short stop on a Hradčany walk.

- Bags: no bags, backpacks or other items larger than A4 in the visitor areas. Oversized items can be left at the Information Centre, which closes at 17:00, so collect them before then. Joint Tour visitors put luggage in a locker at the St Roch's box office first.
- Lockers: do not leave documents, money or phones in them; the monastery accepts no liability.
- Shoes: no high heels in rooms with historic wooden floors.
- No food, drinks or ice cream inside. Dogs are not allowed except assistance dogs and small dogs carried for the whole visit.
Getting to Strahov Monastery
The address is Strahovské nádvoří 132/1, Prague 1 – Hradčany. The monastery's directions page gives these routes:
- Tram 22 or 23 to Pohořelec, then about 5 minutes on foot (roughly 200 m to the main gate). From metro line A, change to tram 22 at Malostranská.
- Tram 25 to Malovanka, then about 5 minutes; from metro line A, change to tram 25 at Hradčanská.
- On foot from Charles Bridge, about 1.5 km uphill via Malostranské náměstí, Nerudova and Úvoz.
- From the Petřín lookout tower, about 600 m downhill through the monastery gardens. The directions page still carried a notice of a closure on this path for water-main works until 26 July 2026, so follow the signs on the day.
There is no parking in the monastery courtyard. Tram fares and passes are in our Prague public transport guide.
