What is free and what needs a ticket

The Vyšehrad visitor page says you can visit the site free of charge all year round, and Prague City Tourism's Vyšehrad page adds that the outdoor area is open to the public all year. Admission to anything indoors depends on the tour or route.

A free visit covers the walls and their views, the gates, the Romanesque Rotunda of St Martin from outside, and the cemetery and Slavín. For most visitors on a short trip, that and one paid extra is enough.

The Gothic Cellar exhibition is closed while a new permanent exhibition is prepared, according to Prague City Tourism (page modified 29 July 2026). The note mentions June 2026 as the planned date, yet the cellar was still listed as closed when we checked, so do not plan around it.

The casemates and Gorlice Hall

This is the main paid sight. The monument's tour page describes a walk through the original casemate corridor inside the fortifications, ending in Gorlice, a large underground hall that now holds six original Baroque statues from Charles Bridge. Visits are guided only.

  • Price: 170 CZK full, 120 CZK reduced, 340 CZK for a family of two adults and three children; under 6 free.
  • Language: commentary in Czech and English; printed texts in other languages can be borrowed.
  • Start: the Brick Gate (Cihelná brána), where tickets are also sold.
  • Length: 45–60 minutes, according to Prague City Tourism's tour listing.

Neither page lists daily start times. The monument's New Year notice for 1 January 2026 said underground tours that day started every hour, with the last at 17:00; for other days, look for start times when you buy online or ask at the Brick Gate.

Exhibition, basilica and cemetery

The Rise and Fall of Vyšehrad

The exhibition page places it in the Gunpowder House (Prachárna) on the Royal Acropolis. It traces Vyšehrad from royal seat to fortress to national symbol, takes 30–45 minutes, and is in Czech and English.

Visitor At the desk Online
Adult, 16–64 190 CZK 170 CZK
Child, 6–15 95 CZK 85 CZK
Student 16–26, senior 65+ 145 CZK 110 CZK
Under 6, visitors with disabilities Free Free

Buying online saves 20 CZK for an adult and 35 CZK for a student or senior. The page also says the exhibition can be visited as part of the casemates route. The Gunpowder House is not wheelchair accessible.

Basilica of Sts Peter and Paul

The basilica is the chapter church of the Vyšehrad Chapter and keeps its own hours, separate from the monument's. Prague City Tourism lists 130 CZK basic, 70 CZK reduced and 250 CZK family admission.

Season Mon–Sat Sunday
November–March 10:00–17:00 11:00–17:00
April–October 10:00–18:00 (Wed–Fri to 17:30) 11:00–18:00

Sightseeing is not possible during mass: Sunday at 9:00 and Wednesday to Friday at 18:00. The treasury exhibition of the chapter is inside.

Vyšehrad Cemetery and Slavín

The cemetery page (modified 30 July 2026) lists it open every day from 8:00, closing at 17:00 from November to February, 18:00 in March, April and October, and 19:00 from May to September. It gives no admission fee. This is the earliest opening on the hill, so a morning visit can start here before the paid sights open.

Opening hours and holidays

The paid sights run on the monument's day. The infocentre page gives its hours as daily 10:00–13:00 and 14:00–18:00; the visitor page shows the lunch break as 12:00–13:00 instead. Prague City Tourism lists the monument as open Monday to Sunday, 10:00–18:00. The Prague Visitor Pass gives the casemates as 10:00–13:00 and 14:00–18:00 daily. Arrive outside 12:00–14:00 to avoid the break, whichever hour it falls in.

For the holidays, the monument's notice for Christmas 2025 said all customer services, including the infocentre, closed early at 16:00 on 24 and 31 December, with regular hours to 18:00 on all other days. On 1 January 2026 the underground was open 10:00–18:00 at a single price of 100 CZK. The 2026–27 arrangements were not published when we checked and may differ, so look at the monument's news page in December. Our Prague Christmas and New Year opening hours guide covers the rest of the city.

Getting there

The monument's access page recommends metro line C to Vyšehrad station. Prague City Tourism gives three ways up:

  • Metro C, Vyšehrad: a short walk, entering from the Pankrác side through the Táborská and Leopold gates. The infocentre stands in front of Leopold Gate.
  • Tram to Výtoň: then climb the stairs via Libušina and Na Libušince streets.
  • Tram to Albertov: then walk uphill along Vratislavova Street.

The casemates tour starts at the Brick Gate, which also houses an information centre and sells tour tickets. The infocentre by Leopold Gate sells guided-tour tickets too. Fares and the ticket app are covered in our Prague public transport tickets guide.

The site is a pedestrian zone. Paid parking (20 CZK an hour, weekdays 8:00–20:00) is in front of the Táborská gate, about 300 metres from the entrances.

Planning a visit

The monument does not publish a visit length for the grounds; as a rough figure, allow an hour to walk the walls and the cemetery. Add 45–60 minutes for the casemates tour, 30–45 minutes for the exhibition and some time in the basilica if you want all three.

A sample half day for two adults: casemates (2 × 170 CZK) and the exhibition booked online (2 × 170 CZK) come to 680 CZK, or 940 CZK with the basilica. If budget matters, skip the basilica interior and see the cemetery and the views for free. If tours are full or the weather is poor, the exhibition and the basilica are both indoors and are not guided tours. For another viewpoint across the river, see the Petřín funicular and lookout tower guide.
