What are the options from PUJ to Bávaro and Punta Cana resorts?

Punta Cana International Airport is privately owned and operated by Corporación Aeroportuaria del Este, and it has two passenger buildings, Terminal A and Terminal B. The airport's transportation page names three authorized taxi services, SIUTRATURAL, Beron Taxi and ASOTATUPAL, available in the arrivals area of both terminals.

There is no rail link, and this guide found no working public bus timetable for the airport. The airport page links to an "APTRA Public Transportation Service", but that link returned an error when checked, so treat a public bus from the terminal as unconfirmed.

This table compares the choices for a resort stay. Journey times are left out because no official source publishes them.

Option Cost basis Best for Watch out for
Authorized airport taxi Fixed USD rate per vehicle, by destination Groups of 2–4, late arrivals, no pre-booking Current rate sheet not readable online
Resort or tour-operator transfer Set by your hotel or package Package holidays, families who want a named pickup Arranged with the hotel, not the airport
Uber App's upfront price Solo travellers who already use the app Airport pickup areas listed as "TBD"
Rental car Daily rate plus fuel and any tolls Stays outside the resort strip, day trips Minimum age 25; drive yourself after a long flight

How much is a taxi from Punta Cana Airport to the resorts?

The airport publishes taxi prices as rate sheets rather than using meters. Its transportation page links to "View Taxi Rates" and "View Taxi Rates Long Distance" documents, but on 23 September 2026 the short-distance link pointed to a 2025 file that returned "not found", and the 2024 files it replaces contained no readable text. That means this guide cannot give you a current fare, and you should ask for the rate to your resort at the taxi desk.

The only readable sheet on the airport's own server is an older 2015 taxi rate sheet. It priced trips one way per vehicle in US dollars, for example USD 35 to the Bávaro Princess and Paradisus Punta Cana hotels, USD 30 to Cap Cana's Secrets Sanctuary, USD 20 to the Westin Puntacana and USD 10 to the Four Points. Those figures are more than ten years old and are shown here only to explain how the pricing works: one fixed price for the car, by named destination.

Worked example: one traveller versus a group of four

Take the structure of the airport's per-vehicle rate and a Bávaro resort as the destination. Call the price quoted at the desk "T".

Traveller set-up Taxi cost Per person Better alternative?
1 person, carry-on and one case T T Compare with an Uber upfront price, or a shared transfer if your hotel sells one
3–4 people, one case each T T ÷ 3 or T ÷ 4 Usually the taxi, since the price does not rise with passengers
5+ people or bulky gear Larger vehicle, ask for a quote Varies A pre-arranged resort transfer with a named vehicle size

On the 2015 sheet's Bávaro figure, a group of four would have paid under USD 9 each, while a solo traveller paid the full USD 35. The current fare will differ, but the proportions are the point: a solo traveller pays the whole car price, so a shared transfer or an app ride is worth checking, while a group of three or four usually does best with the taxi.

Can you use Uber from Punta Cana Airport?

The answer depends on whose page you read. Uber's PUJ page says pickups are available at the airport, that the service runs around the clock, and that fares are shown upfront. The airport's own transportation page, however, lists its "Uber Select / Uber X" pickup areas at both terminals as "TBD", and the Ministry of Tourism's getting-around guide mentions Uber only in Santo Domingo, Santiago and Puerto Plata.

In practice, open the app while you still have airport wi-fi and see whether a car is offered before you walk past the taxi rank. If no pickup point is shown or no driver accepts, the authorized taxis at arrivals are your fallback.

Is renting a car at PUJ worth it?

The airport lists rental desks for Avis, Budget, Payless, Europcar, Hertz, Dollar, Thrifty, National, Enterprise, Alamo and Sixt, plus Ameri Rent, FOX, Inter Rent and Nelly, spread across Terminals A and B. The two airport pages disagree on which company sits in which terminal, so check the terminal on your booking confirmation.

The Ministry of Tourism says renters must be at least 25 and hold a valid licence from their home country, and it recommends full insurance cover. It also gives toll booths as generally RD$60 to RD$100 each.

A car makes most sense if you are staying outside the all-inclusive strip or plan day trips. For a resort-only week, a taxi each way usually involves less hassle than parking, fuel and a return with a full tank, which the ministry says rental companies expect.

Before you leave the terminal

Every passenger, Dominican or foreign, must complete the free E-Ticket for entry and again for exit, and it asks for your accommodation address, so have your resort's name ready. Our E-Ticket and tourist card guide covers what it asks and what happens if you stay longer than 30 days.

If you are flying into Santo Domingo instead, the Las Américas airport guide covers the taxi rates and toll on that route.
