What is the Dominican Republic E-Ticket and who needs it?

The E-Ticket is a single digital form used by several agencies at the border. Migración's service page says it is required of all passengers, Dominican or foreign, entering or leaving the country, that it is free, and that it takes about five minutes. It asks for your name, passport number, email, flight number and airline, accommodation address, and customs details about your luggage and origin where they apply.

Las Américas Airport's E-Ticket page adds that the information goes to Migración, Customs and the Ministry of Public Health, and that you must have filled it in before you check in for your flight.

The sources differ on how early you can start. The airport says you can fill it in up to 72 hours before your flight, while the UK government's entry requirements page, updated 7 August 2026, says up to 7 days before arrival. Completing it within 72 hours of departure satisfies both.

How does the tourist card work?

The tourist card is a separate fee, not a form. The tax authority DGII's tourist card page sets it at US$10 under Law 199-67 and says that since 25 April 2018 it has been included in all air tickets issued outside the Dominican Republic. It authorizes a stay of up to 30 days.

The DGII lists exempt groups, including Dominican citizens, foreign residents, visa holders and diplomats on official business. Visitors who arrive by land or sea, rather than on an airline ticket, buy the card at DGII points of sale.

The tourist card is not a visa. The Ministry of Tourism's entry requirements page lists the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, EU countries, Mexico and Japan among the nationalities that do not need a visa, and says holders of a valid US, Canadian, UK or Schengen visa may also enter without a tourist visa. If your nationality is not on that list, check with a Dominican consulate before booking.

Passport, ticket and money rules on arrival

The ministry says passports normally need six months' validity, but that from 1 December 2024 to 31 December 2026 citizens of the EU, UK, Canada, the US, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador may enter with a passport valid for the length of the stay. The US State Department's country page still gives the six-month rule, so if your passport is close to expiry, check with your airline, which applies the rule at check-in.

The ministry also requires a round-trip ticket, mandatory since 28 April 2023, and proof that you can cover your expenses. The State Department says cash of US$10,000 or more, or the equivalent, must be declared on entry and on exit, and the customs agency's traveller manual flags travellers carrying more than US$10,000 in cash as a case to read up on before you fly.

What happens if you stay more than 30 days?

You have two routes, and both lead to the same fee table. You can apply in advance for a prórroga de estadía, an extension of up to 120 days, or you can pay the stay fee when you leave through Migración's stay fee service, which lets foreigners who exceeded their authorized stay regularize their status on departure.

The stay fee is set by your total length of stay, not by the days over 30. Migración's table starts at RD$3,500 for a stay of 30 to 90 days, then RD$5,600 for 3 to 9 months, RD$7,000 for 9 to 12 months and RD$9,100 for 12 to 18 months, rising further for longer stays. The fee is calculated and paid online at stayfee.migracion.gob.do, which asks for your passport and departure date, and payment can be made at Banco de Reservas or online by Visa or Mastercard through Sirite.

Your trip What applies Fee in Migración's table What to do
Up to 30 days Tourist card in air fare None Complete the E-Ticket twice
31 to 90 days Stay fee or prórroga RD$3,500 Pay online before departure, or apply for a prórroga
91 to 120 days Prórroga RD$5,600 Apply online; allow three working days
More than 120 days Beyond the tourist extension RD$5,600 or more if you overstay Ask a consulate about the correct visa before you travel

The State Department's page gives an older approximation of about US$56 for a one-month overstay. Migración's own table in pesos is the figure that applies, so use it for your budget.

Worked example: a 45-day stay

A traveller who spends 45 days in the country falls in the 30-to-90-day band, so the fee is RD$3,500. The calculator asks for one passport at a time, so budget per person: a couple budgets RD$7,000 and a family of four RD$14,000 if every member is a foreign visitor. Paying online a day or two before the flight avoids doing it at the airport with a queue behind you.
