The season: open spring to early November
Monet's house and gardens belong to the Académie des beaux-arts and close for the winter. The Giverny useful information page gives the 2026 season as 1 April to 1 November, daily from 10:00 to 18:00, with last admission at 17:30 (checked 12 October 2026). It suggests 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours for a self-guided visit.
On 12 October 2026 that leaves three weeks of the season. The page did not show 2027 dates yet.

The page calls online booking "highly recommended" and does not mention time slots. Tickets are also sold on site every day, but once the online quota is reached, it warns of long waits at the gate. Train from Paris Saint-Lazare to Vernon-Giverny
SNCF Connect lists 22 trains a day from Paris Saint-Lazare to Vernon-Giverny, run by TER and Nomad (TER Normandie), with a fastest time of 46 minutes, an average of 57 minutes, and fares from €10 one way in second class on selected trains (checked 12 October 2026). The TER Normandie route page shows a shortest time of 50 minutes and 18 trains a day, and offers 50% off for under-26s with proof of age. The two SNCF pages count trains differently, so look at the times for your date rather than the totals.
The Giverny shuttle bus
The shuttle runs under the SNgo! Vernon bus brand, between Vernon-Giverny station and the Giverny car park, from 27 March to 1 November 2026, according to its 2026 timetable leaflet.
- Fare: €5 single, €10 return, sold on board, cash or bank card accepted, or in advance on the Atoumod m-Ticket app (Giverny useful information page and shuttle leaflet; see also SNgo! prices). Neither the leaflet nor the Giverny page gives a child fare.
- Seats: boarding is limited to the seats available (SNgo! shuttle page).
- Journey: about 20 minutes from Vernon station to Giverny car park on the leaflet times.
The leaflet times each departure from Vernon to a train from Paris:
| Day | Connecting train from Paris (leaflet) | Shuttle leaves Vernon station | Arrives Giverny car park |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday–Friday | 9:02 | 9:20 | 9:40 |
| Monday–Friday | 11:00 | 11:20 | 11:40 |
| Monday–Friday | 13:00 | 13:20 | 13:40 |
| Saturday, Sunday, holidays | 9:13 | 9:30 | 9:50 |
| Saturday, Sunday, holidays | 11:13 | 11:25 | 11:45 |
| Saturday, Sunday, holidays | 13:13 | 13:30 | 13:50 |
These are a selection; the leaflet has more departures, the latest from Vernon at 18:00 on weekdays and 15:30 at weekends. On the way back, shuttles leave Giverny car park on weekdays at 10:20, 11:00, 12:20, 13:20, 15:20, 16:20, 17:20, 18:20 and 19:20, and at weekends at 10:20, 11:00, 11:50, 12:50, 14:15, 14:55, 16:20, 17:20 and 18:20. The leaflet matches each to a train towards Paris, except the 14:55 weekend shuttle, which has no connection listed. The leaflet asks passengers to be at the stop a few minutes early.
Cost and timing for a day
For one adult using the cheapest advertised train fare:
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Train Paris ↔ Vernon-Giverny | From €20 (from €10 each way) |
| Shuttle return | €10 |
| House and gardens | €13 |
| Total | From €43 |
A typical weekday plan: the train the leaflet lists at 9:02, the 9:20 shuttle, the gate at about 9:40 before the 10:00 opening, two hours in the house and gardens, lunch in the village, and the 13:20 or 15:20 shuttle back. That puts you back at Saint-Lazare by mid-afternoon or early evening.
If you are building a Monet day around the Musée d'Orsay, check its ticket rules first. For other day trips that need advance planning, compare the Versailles and Mont-Saint-Michel guides, and see luggage storage near the Paris stations if you are carrying bags.
