Ticket prices

The castle's barrier-free park map lists the admission fees that have applied since 1 April 2025, and the Osaka tourism bureau's page gives the same figures with the conditions:

Visitor Individual Group of 15+
Adult ¥1,200 ¥1,080
University or high-school student ¥600 ¥540
Aged 15 and under Free Free
Visitor with a disability certificate, plus one companion Free —

Students must show a student ID or pay the adult price; the tourism bureau says overseas students need an ISIC card. Young children should carry proof of age. The castle accepts cash, credit cards, Suica and PASMO, and QR-code payment.

What the ticket covers

One Main Tower ticket gives you the keep's exhibition floors and, since 2025, the Toyotomi Stone Wall Museum, the basement-level gallery opened that year. The museum page says entry requires the Main Tower admission fee, and the Osaka Amazing Pass list describes the two as usable on the same day. Keep your ticket after visiting the keep.

Buying in advance

The castle's English home page says advance tickets are sold through its reservation site. The pages we read do not say tickets sell out or that a time slot is needed, so buying at the ticket counter on the day is a normal option. Buying ahead mainly saves the counter queue.

Opening hours and closures

The Main Tower and the Stone Wall Museum open 9:00–18:00, with last entry at 17:30, and close for the New Year from 28 December to 1 January (Stone Wall Museum page and tourism bureau, checked 30 October 2026). Neither page lists a weekly closing day. The Osaka Amazing Pass list adds that the castle may close temporarily for reasons such as natural disasters.

So for a visit on 27 December, arrive before 17:30; from 28 December to 1 January, plan the park and the outer walls only.

Nishinomaru Garden

The garden in the western part of the castle grounds has its own ticket and rules. According to the tourism bureau's garden page:

  • Price: ¥200 for adults on the tourism bureau's page. Free for junior-high age and under, Osaka city residents aged 65 and over, and people with a disability certificate. The Osaka Amazing Pass list gives the garden's regular price as ¥300 (¥350 in cherry-blossom season); we could not read the park operator's own page, so bring ¥300 in case.
  • Hours: 9:00–17:00 from March to October, 9:00–16:30 from November to February. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing. In cherry-blossom season it stays open until 20:00.
  • Closed: Mondays and the New Year holidays. The Amazing Pass list adds that when Monday is a public holiday, the garden closes on the following weekday instead.

Two consequences for planning. From November to February the garden's last entry is 16:00, two hours before the castle closes, so do the garden first on a winter afternoon. And on a Monday you can visit the castle but not the garden.

Is the Osaka Amazing Pass worth it here?

The Osaka Amazing Pass covers the Main Tower (with the Stone Wall Museum), Nishinomaru Garden and the Gozabune moat boat, which runs 10:00–16:30 and closes 28 December to 3 January. Paying separately, the castle and garden together cost an adult ¥1,400–¥1,500, depending on which garden price applies. The 1-day pass costs ¥3,500, so it only makes sense if you will use it at several other attractions on the same day; our Osaka Amazing Pass guide does that calculation.

Getting there

The keep stands in the middle of a large park, so the station you choose sets your walk. The castle's access page lists:

Osaka Metro Tanimachi Line Tanimachi 4-chome (exit 1-B) or Tenmabashi (exit 3)
Osaka Metro Chuo Line Tanimachi 4-chome (exit 9) or Morinomiya (exit 1 or 3-B)

The castle does not publish walking times. The tourism bureau puts the keep at roughly 15–20 minutes on foot from JR Morinomiya or Osakajokoen, and Nishinomaru Garden at about 10 minutes from Osakajokoen or Tanimachi 4-chome. Osaka City Bus route 62 stops at Osakajo-otemae and Babacho. For fares and day tickets on the subway, see our Osaka Metro fares guide.

If you drive, the park car parks at Osakajokoen Station and Morinomiya charge ¥400 an hour on weekdays and ¥500 an hour at weekends and on holidays between 8:00 and 22:00.
