Westminster Abbey ticket prices
The Abbey's opening times and prices page lists these entry prices (checked 9 October 2026):
| Ticket | Price |
|---|---|
| Adult | £32 |
| Adult 65+ | £29 |
| Student | £29 |
| Child (6-17) | £14 |
| Child (0-5) | Free |
| Family: 1 adult and 1 child | £32 |
| Registered disabled visitor and one essential companion | Free |
The family line means one child goes free with each paying adult. Using the price list, two adults with two children aged 6–17 pay £64 on two family tickets, and a third child adds £14.
The ticket includes the Cloisters, College Garden, Chapter House and Pyx Chamber, and a multimedia guide in 14 languages. Bring headphones if you use the downloadable version on your own phone.
Book online or pay at the door?
The Abbey publishes one price list, with no separate online or door price. The Visit us page says advance booking is "highly recommended" to guarantee entry at busy times. Some details favour each route:
- Online on the Abbey's site: you get a guaranteed entry, and you can upgrade the ticket free to an annual pass for three visits in 12 months. Promotional and third-party tickets cannot be upgraded.
- At the door: National Rail's 2-for-1 offer (two full-price adults for one, plus a free child under 18 with each adult) works only for tickets bought at the door with a valid rail ticket and e-voucher. The £1 rate for UK benefit recipients cannot be booked online either.
The ticket site says entry tickets are non-refundable. If transport strikes or illness affect your plans, you can reschedule within 6 months of the original booking (checked 9 October 2026).
Opening hours and last entry
The Visit us page gives the standard pattern (checked 9 October 2026):
| Day | Open | Last entry |
|---|---|---|
| Monday to Friday | 9:30am-4:30pm | 3:30pm |
| Saturday | 9:00am-4:00pm | 3:00pm |
| Sunday | Services only | No sightseeing |
The prices page also shows a daily calendar. For Thursday 8 October 2026 it listed general admittance from 9:30am to 3:30pm, the admission window that ends at last entry. The Abbey calls itself a working church that is "sometimes subject to closure at short notice", so check the calendar for your date before you go.
Allow time before last entry for security. All doors have walk-through security with bag checks, and the Abbey asks visitors to bring as little as possible.
Sundays and free services
Westminster Abbey is not open for sightseeing on Sundays: the prices page's own summary says it is open to visitors Monday to Saturday, and the Visit us page lists Sunday as open for services. On any day, the Abbey says it does not charge for attending a daily service, and you enter through the Great West Door. You can also come in for private prayer during opening hours.
The services page says "everyone is welcome at these services, free of charge" (checked 9 October 2026). For the week of 4–10 October 2026, Evensong was held in the Quire at:
- Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday: 3:00pm
- Monday, Tuesday and Friday: 5:00pm
- Thursday: no Evensong (a said Evening Prayer at 5:00pm instead)
The Wednesday service that week was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, with the congregation seated by 2:45pm. The Abbey warns that service times and places can change at short notice, so check the calendar for your week. Evensong suits a traveller who wants to hear the choir in the building on a Sunday or after sightseeing hours. It is worship, not a substitute for a sightseeing ticket.
The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Galleries
The Galleries sit in the 13th-century triforium high above the Abbey floor. According to the Galleries page, you need a standard sightseeing ticket plus a separate timed Galleries ticket (checked 9 October 2026). The Abbey's visitor pages do not state the Galleries add-on price; the ticket site shows it when you book. Registered disabled visitors enter the Galleries free.
Entry is through the Weston Tower near Poets' Corner, by a 13-person lift or 108 steps in short flights. The Galleries page gives weekday hours of 9:30am–2:30pm (last entry 2:00pm), and on Saturdays 9:30am–4:00pm (last entry 3:00pm). The Galleries are closed on Sundays. The daily calendar for 8 October 2026 showed 10:00am–3:00pm, so check the calendar for your date.
Bags, getting there and what fails
Bags and items larger than cabin-bag size, 55 x 40 x 20 cm, are not allowed in the building. The Abbey points to the left luggage at Victoria station, or see luggage storage in London for other options.
Westminster station (Jubilee, District and Circle lines) is about 300 metres away, and St James's Park about 500 metres. There is no car park.
- Arriving on a Sunday: go to a service, or move the visit to Monday and fill Sunday with the free museums or the London Eye across the river.
- Arriving after last entry: in the week of 4–10 October 2026 there was a 5:00pm Evensong on Monday, Tuesday and Friday, free to attend.
- Short notice closure: reschedule through the ticket site. For another paid historic site with longer hours, see Tower of London tickets, where last entry is 16:30.
