Which ticket you need

Topkapı Palace has been run by the National Palaces Administration (Milli Saraylar Başkanlığı) since 2019, not by the Ministry of Culture, so its prices come from the National Palaces Topkapı page. These were the prices on 30 October 2026:

Ticket Foreign visitor Turkish visitor Reduced
Combined: palace + Harem + Hagia Irene 2,750 TL 500 TL 250 TL
Harem only 1,050 TL 400 TL 150 TL
Hagia Irene only 1,050 TL 350 TL 150 TL
Night tour 4,000 TL 1,000 TL —

For a first visit, buy the combined ticket. The price list shows no ticket for the palace courtyards and pavilions alone, so the question "with or without the Harem?" does not arise for foreign visitors: the Harem is already inside the 2,750 TL ticket. The combined ticket is valid for one day from purchase, so plan the whole visit, including Hagia Irene in the first courtyard, for the same day.

The separate Harem and Hagia Irene tickets matter mainly to holders of a Müzekart, the Turkish museum card. The page says the Müzekart is valid at National Palaces sites but not in the Topkapı Harem or Hagia Irene sections, so card holders enter the palace on the card and pay for those two sections on top.

Children and students

Children aged 0–6 enter free. The page offers the reduced price to Turkish and Northern Cypriot students aged 18–25 with a student ID, and says foreign students pay twice the reduced price. Foreign students aged 12–25 must show a physical ISIC card. Applied to the combined ticket, that works out at 500 TL (2 × 250 TL); the page does not print that figure, so confirm it at the ticket window. There is no reduced rate for foreign visitors over 65 on the list.

Museum Pass and the National Palaces pass

Neither of the big passes is a sure thing here. The National Palaces page does not mention the Ministry of Culture's MuseumPass at all; our Museum Pass Istanbul guide works through what that means for the pass's value. The National Palaces' own combined tickets exclude Topkapı: the Dolmabahçe page says Kombine Bilet I, II and III do not include it, and the online ticket page states that the full pass does not include Topkapı Palace.

Opening hours and closed days

The Topkapı page gives ticket office hours of 09:00 to 17:00, with no separate summer and winter timetable. It does not publish a last-entry time or a closing time for the grounds; the site header shows "09:00 17:30", which suggests visitors may stay until about 17:30. With the Harem and Hagia Irene on one ticket, arriving after about 14:00 leaves little time, so buy your ticket in the morning if you can.

The palace closes:

  • every Tuesday;
  • on 1 January;
  • on the first day of Ramazan Bayramı (Eid al-Fitr).

The page lists the other public holidays, including 29 October and the four days of Kurban Bayramı, as open days. It also says that when a public or religious holiday falls on the weekly closing day, the palace stays closed.

Night tours

The price list includes a night tour at 4,000 TL for foreign visitors (750 TL for foreign students) but gives no dates or times. The only schedule we found is a press report: Alomaliye wrote in May 2026 that night visits would run on Saturdays from 13 June to 12 September 2026, 20:30–22:30, without citing an official announcement. No official page we read confirms those dates, so do not plan a visit around a night tour unless the National Palaces site lists one for your dates.

How to buy

You can buy at the ticket office at the palace. The National Palaces online ticket page is more limited than it looks:

  • Its Turkish-language form is for Turkish citizens only, tied to a Turkish ID number, and its list of venues does not include Topkapı Palace.
  • It tells foreign visitors to buy a "Foreign Visitor" ticket on the English page. We could not read that page, so we cannot confirm whether Topkapı tickets for foreign visitors are on sale online.
  • The National Palaces mobile app (App Store and Google Play) sells e-tickets that you carry on your phone.

Getting there

The palace entrance is at Cankurtaran Mahallesi, Babı Hümayun Caddesi No. 1, in Sultanahmet (Fatih), behind Hagia Sophia. The National Palaces page gives no directions. The tram operator's line pages could not be read for this guide. As a location aid only, a Wikipedia overview of the tram network places a T1 stop at Sultanahmet, the nearest tram stop to the palace; check the walk to the outer gate on a map.

Hagia Sophia is next door; its tourist gallery, prayer-time rules and dress code are in our Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque guide. To fit Topkapı around the other palaces' and museums' closing days, use our weekly closing-days planner.
