Which ticket to buy
The zoo's visitor information page lists these prices per person:
| Ticket | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Adult day ticket | €29 | €27 each in a group of more than 10 |
| Ages 6–18 | €17 | Photo ID required |
| Visitors with a disability | €17 | Disability certificate required |
| Under 6 | Free | |
| Family block ticket | €96 | 2 adults + 3 children, five single day tickets valid one year |
| Annual ticket, adult | €69 | Includes the Desert House |
For two adults and three children aged 6–18, separate day tickets cost €109 (2 × €29 + 3 × €17). The family block ticket at €96 saves €13. It contains five one-day tickets that can be used individually within a year, so it also works for two visits by a smaller group.
For two adults with two children, the block costs €96 against €92 for separate tickets, so buy singles unless you plan to come back. The annual ticket pays off from the third adult visit in a year.
The FAQ says there are only one-day tickets; there is no half-day or afternoon rate. Children under 14 must be with an adult.
Buying online
The online tickets page says the zoo's partner Imperial Austria sells online day tickets so you can skip the ticket-office queue. On the Imperial Tickets product page the prices match the gate (€29 adult, €17 ages 6–18), the ticket is an instant e-ticket, and it is valid for one admission within a year of purchase.
The zoo page says discounted tickets can only be bought at the zoo, while Imperial Tickets sells the child ticket online. In practice, buy adult and child tickets online if you like, and buy any disability-rate or partner-card ticket at the gate, where you can show proof. The Vienna City Card day ticket, €25 according to the combined tickets page, is sold only at the zoo's ticket offices. The zoo says advance reservation is neither necessary nor possible.
Combined tickets
The combined tickets page lists these adult prices; each includes one visit to the zoo:
| Combination | Adult | Child | Valid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zoo + Desert House | €33.50 | €20.50 (6–19) | One year |
| Zoo + Palm House + Desert House | €38 | €24 (6–19) | One year |
| Zoo + Giant Ferris Wheel | €35 | €18.50 | One year from purchase |
| Zoo + Danube Tower | €39 | €23 (under 15) | One year |
| Classic Pass Plus (zoo + palace + gardens) | €81 | €58 (6–18) | Sold 27 March – 2 November |
| Zoo + Children's Museum + Maze | €39 | €29 (6–18) | Sold 27 March – 2 November |
Combined tickets are sold at the zoo and at the partner attractions. The page advises checking each attraction's opening hours before you buy.
The Classic Pass Plus and the Children's Museum combination are sold only from 27 March to 2 November. The same page mentions an offer "available from November 4th until March 31st at Schönbrunn Palace and online", but gives no name, price or contents for it, so ask at the palace if you are visiting in winter. Our Schönbrunn Palace tickets guide covers the palace's timed tickets.
The Ferris wheel combination is sold on the wheel side too. The Riesenrad's combination page gives the same €35 and €18.50, but for children aged 3–14, while the zoo lists ages 6–15. Bring ID for a child near either limit. Wheel prices and hours are in our Wiener Riesenrad guide.
The Desert House is separate
The Desert House sits opposite the Palm House, next to the main Hietzing entrance, outside the zoo. A zoo ticket does not include it. On its own it costs €9 for adults and €7 for ages 6–19.
The Desert House page quotes lower combination prices (€31.50 for zoo + Desert House and €36 with the Palm House added) than the combined tickets page (€33.50 and €38). Expect to pay the higher figures and treat a lower price at the desk as a bonus. Its hours are 9am–5pm from October to April and 9am–6pm from May to September, with last entry 30 minutes before closing.

Opening hours
The zoo opens every day of the year, public holidays included, at 9am. Closing time depends on the month:
| Month | Hours |
|---|---|
| January | 9am–4:30pm |
| February | 9am–5pm |
| March | 9am–5:30pm |
| April–September | 9am–6:30pm |
| October | 9am–5:30pm until the clocks go back, then 9am–4:30pm |
| November–December | 9am–4:30pm |
The ticket office closes 30 minutes before closing time, which is also the last entry. In winter that means arriving by 4pm at the latest. The visitor information page says the zoo is open 365 days a year but lists no separate hours for 24 or 31 December; if those days are part of your plan, confirm the closing time with the zoo.
Some animal houses close before the zoo itself. The visitor information page says the Bird House shuts an hour before closing and most other houses half an hour before; the Aquarium-Terrarium House and the Tyrolean farmhouse stay open until closing. The FAQ adds that the tree-top path can close in bad weather and that the morning is the best time to see the animals.
Getting there and entrances
The how to get there page lists:
- U-Bahn: U4 to Hietzing.
- Tram: 10, 49, 52 and 60.
- Bus: 51A, 56A, 56B, 58A and 58B.
For the main entrance, walk into the palace park through the Hietzinger Tor gate. The FAQ names three zoo entrances: Hietzing (main), Tirolerhof and Neptun. For fares and day tickets, see our Vienna public transport tickets guide.
Drivers can use the small public car park on Seckendorff-Gudent-Weg, reached via Elisabeth-Allee, which has disabled spaces and an electric charging point. From there you arrive at the Tirolergarten entrance at the top of a steep path down to the zoo. The page also points to park-and-ride garages at Hütteldorf (U4) and Siebenhirten (U6).

Rules, pushchairs and accessibility
The visitors' rules and the FAQ cover the points visitors most often ask about:
- Wheels: bicycles, inline skates, skateboards and scooters cannot be used on the zoo grounds.
- Pushchairs: allowed, but there is no storage for pushchairs, scooters or balance bikes.
- Feeding: strictly banned in every part of the zoo.
- Payment: cards are accepted at ticket offices, catering and shops; there is no cash machine.
How long to allow
The zoo does not publish a suggested visit length. Ticket validity is one visit on one day, so plan around the closing time: a 9am start gives seven and a half hours in winter and nine and a half in summer. Add the Desert House or Palm House at the end, since they sit by the main entrance and keep their own hours.
If you miss last entry or the weather turns, an unused ticket is not lost: the online ticket and the Riesenrad combination ticket are both valid for a year from purchase, and the family block ticket's five day tickets also last a year.
