What you need to decide

  • Is the Sagrada Família open on your date? On 12 October 2026 the only dated closure notice on the official site was published on 3 October: the basilica stayed closed on 4 October until 2 pm because of adverse weather, with automatic refunds for official-channel tickets. An undated "temporarily closed" line also sits on the tickets page below cards that still sell tickets; nothing else on the site pointed to a closure that day. Closures have come at a day's notice, so the Sagrada Família guide explains what to check and when.
  • Which sites need a timed ticket bought online? The Sagrada Família (EUR 26, named tickets, about two months ahead, no entry if late) and Park Güell (€18, enter within 30 minutes of your slot, up to three months ahead) sell nothing on the door. La Pedrera and the Palau de la Música are best booked online too: neither refunds tickets, and the Palau box office sells same-day tickets only, at €2 extra each.
  • How will you leave the airport? The L9 Sud metro at both terminals needs its own EUR 5.90 Airport ticket and refuses the T-casual; the R2 Nord train from Terminal 2 accepts it. See El Prat to the centre.
  • Which travel card? In zone 1 a T-casual is €13.00 for 10 journeys, a T-familiar €11.50 for 8 shareable journeys and a T-usual €22.80 for 30 days, tied to your ID (ATM, checked 12 October 2026). Ride count and party size decide it; see T-casual and the fare zones.
  • How many Modernisme interiors? La Pedrera, Sant Pau and the Palau sell combined tickets with each other, which save a few euros per adult if you want two of them.

Getting around and out of town

From the airport, a taxi runs on the meter plus a EUR 4.60 airport supplement, with a EUR 21.00 minimum, and the Aerobús runs 24 hours from both terminals to Plaça Catalunya from EUR 7.45 per ATM (checked 12 October 2026). On the guide's 15 km illustration, a taxi for four costs within a few euros of four Aerobús fares.

On Montjuïc, the funicular from Paral·lel is TMB metro line FM and takes an ordinary metro ticket; the cable car to the castle is a separate ticket and is not part of the Hola Barcelona travel card. The funicular switches to winter hours on 26 October 2026, with its last evening service around 20:00.

Montserrat is about an hour away on the FGC R5 from Plaça Espanya, hourly from 08:26. The rack railway and the Aeri cable car both cost €15 return for an adult (operator fares, checked 12 October 2026), and ordinary T-mobilitat tickets are not valid on the rack railway or funiculars. Packages that include the train are collected at the FGC desk in Plaça Espanya, open 8:00 to 14:00. The Montserrat guide has the timetable seasons and a costed day for two.

If this is your situation

Re-check on the day

  • The Sagrada Família home page banner, the day before and on the morning of your visit, for any new closure notice and its exact hours.
  • The Telefèric de Montjuïc and Aerobús home pages for weather, strike or demonstration notices; both carried such notices when read on 12 October 2026.
  • The rain forecast for La Pedrera: if it rains the rooftop closes, and you can reschedule only before your ticket is scanned.
  • The Escolania schedule for your date, because the choir does not sing every day, and Turistren's timetable for the last rack train down.
  • Winter changes: La Pedrera's day visits end at 18:30 from 2 November 2026, and it is closed on 25 December 2026 and from 11 to 17 January 2027; the Montjuïc cable car closes at 18:00 from November; Sant Pau closes at 17:00 from November to March.
